RESPIRATORY SYSTEM.
The respiratory system is the biological system that introduces respiratory gases to the interior and performs gas exchange.

The structure and function of the parts of the respiratory system.

* The nose or nasal cavity warms the air that we breath to prevent damage to the delicate tissues that form the respiratory system. It is lined with cilia and mucous secretions to help filter out solid particles.

* The trachea contains cilia and mucus which helps filter the air we breathe. The mucous traps bacteria, dust and viruses and the cilia beats and creates an upward current.

* The epiglottis closes off the trachea when we swallow, to prevent food from entering the lungs.That is attached to the entrance of the larynx. *
The lungs are spongy structures where the exchange of gases takes place, of course.

* But the alveoli of the lungs is truly where gas exchange occurs.These exchanges occur as a result of diffusion. (Water vapor + carbon dioxide out; oxygen in).

* Rings of cartilage keep the trachea open so it doesn't close over on itself. *
Pleural membranes are for lubrication. * Intercostal muscles are used for breathing in and out. * Bronchi divides into two leading to both lungs. *
Bronchioles carry air to alveoli. *
Alveoli spherical structure for large surface are also thin, permeable and moist for gas exchange.

    Gas exchange is a process done via the respiratory system to allow oxygen into the body and for carbon dioxide to leave the body through the blood cells.
