Motivation in a workplace plays very significant role. It is the one of main reasons that an organization’s efficiency changes as motivation is proportional to employee’s performance. So, it can be said that motivation is the force which derives organization and affects its performance. Therefore it is concern of a manager to know how to motivate employee and to set a productive environment within an organization. In this document we can examine the common behavior of employee in workplace and the factors responsible for their motives. This covers the existing problems in workplaces, which are conspicuous in today’s modern business world. These problems affect employee’s performance by changing entire morale of employees working in an organization. If there’s no motivation all the tasks will be mundane of an individual and finally he/she will no longer be interested in doing work as well as without motivation lethargy will be there in an individual which will make him/her reluctant towards work. This document concentrate on identifying tasks which could help managers to motivate their employees, for this different motivational theories are considered along with its application are discussed. The important role of managers in motivating process is well discussed in this document and finally it is followed by conclusion that “Motivation: a Boon or Bane for better workplace Environment”.

Before we begin with discussion of role of motivation in an organization let’s get familiarize with the term motivation. It can be describe as internal and external factors that stimulate desire, determination and enthusiasm in people to be continually engaged in a job, role or subject, or to make effort to achieve goal with commitment and interest.

In any business organization the first and the most important responsibility of a business manager is to achieve the objectives of the firm he manages. The objectives that firms pursue are more than one, they may be maximization of sales revenues, firm’s growth rate, profit, sustainability of a firm, etc. In order to meet these objectives, motivation is the one of the crucial elements of an organization’s functioning. It is the force that binds employees of a firm to their jobs and also with their colleagues. Motivation gets the work done in the best possible way. For an organization to meet its objective it is necessary that its employees should give their output efficiently with dedication towards their work. Working in a team coherently for the same goal is the one of the strength for achieving goals.

Although it is difficult task for a business manager to motivate employees working in his/her firm as every employee in the company has his/her needs, beliefs and different outlook towards life. Therefor it becomes Manager’s job to find the ways to set a requirement for an environment, where everyone feels satisfied with their jobs. In this positive environment of workplace efficiency of firm for sure will be at increasing phase as result there will be noticeable growth in business.


Here are some objectives which are the reasons dissects motivation role in an organization.

To determine the reasons behind under or over performance of a firm. To establish ways to enhance the performance of a firm and motivation of its employees.

Scope of study

This study throws light on different motivation measures and performance of employees in an organization with respect to the complexities in achieving best optimal performance.
