Ninas birthday was planned by her friends. They wanted to do a trip to the Kakadu National Park. The friends thought that there would be only freshwater crocodiles and these were not aggressive and much smaller than the saltwater crocodiles. And only two or three people died each year in a crocodile attack. So they thought that there was no reason to be afraid. There were also Rangers who checked for them, even by helicopter!
When they got into the park they saw crocodile warning signs everywhere. But they didn’t mind them. They wanted to see the beautiful plunge pools. One of the friends, Mike, wanted to swim in the cold water. But the others were too afraid. Except Nina. She went together with Mike to the water. The others didn’t follow.
When Nina and Mike didn’t come back, David felt sick. He was really scared. After two hours, they suddenly appeared behind some rocks. Nina didn’t say anything, she seemed like shocked.
In the evening, Nina told David how she was nearly attacked by a crocodile. She could have been eaten, if she had jumped into the water.

I jumped in the shower and sang the whole time, until it was time to get out. It was time to get dressed and do my hair. As I was slipping on my…

Drag’s Birthday Surprise: A Tiberius Story by Keith Harvey Sometimes the postman came to Tiberius’ house, but not very often. Occasionally he had a letter from a friend who had moved away to another village and sometimes his aunt would send him a letter, or even a parcel! Tiberius was halfway through his breakfast of cheeseflakes when he first heard the postman’s cheery whistle. ‘Great!’ thought Tiberius. ‘It sounds like a letter or, even better, a parcel is coming my way.’ The whistling got…

My Ultimate Birthday Surprise I had gone to spend the week with my cousin, Brandon, and his wife, Jennie the summer of my sixteenth birthday. I had no idea that Brandon had the most thoughtful and extravagant birthday gift I could ever imagine. I had always wondered if I would ever have the courage to jump out of an airplane at 13,000 feet in the air. Skydiving had always been a dream of mine…

There was not even a cloud in the sky, although I did feel obliged to go over to those happy children and warn them of the safety issues. It was my thirteenth birthday today. Surprise: Yes or No? Some critics have said that, “The problem with surprise or trick endings is that they can only be read once for enjoyment. After you know the secret, these stories lose all interest. In the short story “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant, it can be read more than once with more interest.
