The Mask of Zorro There is a story of losing love ones in the face of evil and corruption. To change a man who has lost everything to have him gain so much honor, fame, and love. To destroy who caused you suffering and avenge those who have fallen for you. To reveal that to gain so much, you must lose everything you used to hold so dear. Everything is avenged when a hero holds The Mask of Zorro. Throughout the movie, they’re multiple archetypes presented as scenes move on, such as the introduction of main characters, death and rebirth, and spiritual gain. The Hero must go on a Journey to avenge the lost, he must face evil and corruption, to find what he has lost has reformed him into a good

Alejandro Murrieta, a man who has given his life to become a successful petty thief with his brother, Joaquin Murrieta. Alejandro is the supposed “Hero” of the movie, a man who steals is apparently a Hero. At a failed theft, he lost his dear brother to evils hands. A frail looking old man with extreme knowledge of fighting and skill , Don Diego de la Vega, prevented Alejandro from his death by proving to him that he can be trained into a weapon and can help avenge his pain. Diego became The Hero’s Mentor. He is the Hero’s savior and trainer that will guide him with the knowledge to defeat all evil that would stand in his way. The Hero is now a strong figure that represents freedom and justice at this time. Alejandro has the will to learn and eventually take on his Mentors tasks. Jung initially defined the Hero as a man of honor, courage, and spirit, yet the movie presents a twist in the archetype by having the hero as a thief. His Mentor sends him on The Initiation to retrieve a horse for Zorro, the test to challenge his skills to prove he can continue with any mission, comparing to “The Odyssey”, when Homer had to complete his madden voyage, if he failed he would come to nothing. To test Alejandro, he had to battle dozens of men to get out of a situation alive yet still achieves his objective. Eventually, his true task came, The Journey, to find out his truth …show more content…
He is a sharp, cruel, and deadly military officer trained in only killing and has been hunting Alejandro ever since his brothers’ death. Another Devil Figure is Don Rafael, Captain Love’s Commander, and Diego’s nemesis. Rafael took away Diego’s wife, Esperanza de la Vega, and his daughter to raise as his own, Elena de la Vega. With Diego losing everything he held so dear to him, he has the motivation to train Alejandro, because they both understand what it is to lose everything. You see the battle between Good Versus Evil and Heaven Versus Hell between the Mentor and the Hero against the evil and corruption that has taken away their

Archetypes were first described by Carl Young because he saw similarities between pieces of literature. There are several archetypes in most stories and many stories may have some of the same archetypes. This is evidently true in the movie Cool Hand Luke and also in the book “The Catcher in the Rye”. Luke, in Cool Hand Luke, and Holden, in The Catcher in the Rye, exhibit similar archetypal features such as the Christ-Figure, the Anti-hero and their experience of the road of trails.…

To take the scorpion metaphor deeper I think that El Patrón captures his prey much like a scorpion. He takes them in and like a scorpion he injects them with poison. In his case the poison is turning them into eejits and/or ruining their lives by never letting them go. El Patrón believed that he deserved his siblings lives so he takes others in return. The main element on my shield is a drop of poison coming from the scorpion tail. It represents El Patrón’s wrath that fuels his empire. The colors of my shield are black, Gray, red, and white. The dark red represents El Patrón’s rage, anger, leadership, longing, malice, and wrath. The black represents his power, death he caused, and pure evil. The used the gray to represent the poison and actually means isolation. The poison of El Patrón is often just separating the from the rest of the world. The gray is sitting on white which we all know stands for innocence and purity. The shield shows the buildup of innocent lives that El Patrón takes by “poisoning them”. The motto I used for El Patrón’s Empire is “Sus Vidas Son Mis Vidas”. In english this says “their lives are my lives”. Going back to the “stolen lives of his siblings” this represents their lives being…

La Gran Aventura De Alejandro takes place during Alejandro's vacation in Madrid in the 1990's. After helping a gypsy girl when she is being bullied, Alejandro is rewarded a magic ring. The magic ring allows Alejandro to "jump" in to pieces of history such as paintings or statues and explore them. While he is in these pieces of history, Alejandro exhibits acts of bravery and kindness. An example would be when he helps save his friend Franz from being killed, showing courage and kindness, even though Alejandro could have come into harm himself. Even after Alejandro has all of his adventures with the ring, at the end of the book he actually passes the ring onto another person, possibly leading to more adventures.…

For my paper I have decided to view the original "Scarface" which was directed by Howard Hawks. This film stars Paul Muni, Ann Dvorak and George Raft. This film was made in 1932 and was in black and white. The film was to take place in Chicago and show a realization of the prohibition era. This was about the organized crime in Chicago and loosely base on the life of Al Capone. This film is a certain character that moves up on the mob ladder until his own weaknesses catch up with him. The main character in this film is Tony Camonte. Tony is the man that has not fears and does not hesitate for a second to kill somebody. In this film you can see a reoccurring symbol that signifies many things. This symbol is the "X" in the very beginning of the film you when you see the title "Scarface" and in the background you see the "X". This symbol is repeated throughout the film, whether it is on a woman's gown, in the bowling alley to signify a strike, on a wooden beam after the recreation of the St. Valentine's Day massacre or the scar on Tony's face; either way the "X" is a symbol for death and that some one is or already did die. One other place we see the "X" is on the door of Guino Rinaldo and then he is killed by Tony. Since the "X" symbolizes death we learn that Tony will eventually die in the movie because he has a scar on his face of an "X". The filmmaker wants the audience to realize the reoccurrence of the "X" this is way the symbol is shown is so many times. There is another symbol we see in this film we see a sign that says "The World Is Yours" This sign gave the Tony charter a sense of power and greatness.…

His mother, who came from a family of farmers and known as men of the people, wanted Antonio to pursue a future life as a priest. While his father, who came from a family of cowboys and rode the IIano to find new discoveries wanted Antonio to follow in his footsteps. These conflicting views between his parents made Antonio struggle to find his future identity. Similarly, I grappled with the same battle as a child. Hearing of the word hero brings to my mind a good looking man with some qualities of fair, equal, courage, brave, honest and a positive leader. This makes the opposite a villain a person who wishes wrong for someone or a person who creates evil. The event changes dramatically, a hero of the past may not be considered a hero in the present and versa. Hernando Cortes a hero for joining two worlds and conquering the most powerful civilization of America or Hernando Cortes a villain for making the Aztec Empire disappear. Hernando Cortez was an important symbol for the explorations, but killing people, ending the most powerful civilization in America and spreading diseases does not makes him a hero. With good strategy and few men Cortes defeated the Aztec Empire, first Montezuma II and then Cuauhtémoc. (5) Spreading disease “smallpox” to the Aztecs that then will spread the disease all over Mexico and making many people die. (2) Taking over a civilization that had his culture, language, religion and after doing all this finished with the entire Aztec Empire. (1) If you argue these reasons you get the results of a villain or in this case the result of Cortes.…

Archetypes are recurring symbols, characters, landscapes, or events found in myths and literature across different cultures and eras that help us organize events into categories. There are three main types of archetypes which include situational, character, and symbolic. All three are easily relatable to. Firstly, an example of a unhealable wound in a situational archetype can be found with Mrs. Maloney in “Lamb to the Slaughter.” An example of a scapegoat, which is a character archetype, is Tessie Hutchinson in “The Lottery” where she is stoned to death. Finally, an example of a light/darkness symbolic archetype can be found in “The Sniper” where in this case darkness defeats light.…
