Zoology Personal Statement
I am passionate about zoology and learning about the physiology and behaviour of the animals around us from cellular to whole organism level through evolution and classification. One of the main reasons for this was Sir David Attenborough. My curiosity and love for the subject grew as I read his books and watched documentaries, such as Planet Earth. I am particularly interested in the animal behaviour aspect of the course, along with biodiversity and taxonomy, which I have covered in A-level biology. A personal interest in conservation resulted in my joining WWF. I am also a member of one of the top zoos in the UK, Chester Zoo where I am a regular visitor. This is not only a leisure activity but has become a way to further develop my interest in zoology and help to fulfil my ambition.
The subjects I am studying at A-level support my interest in zoology. I am studying the core

During this week, my experience was at Cheshire Equine Clinic. This allowed me to work in a veterinary environment. The work ranged from observing consults on patients, dissecting horse legs, to expanding my microscope skills by investigating numbers of worm eggs in samples to conclude which treatment should be given. All of this was a fantastic opportunity to add to my experience and develop my skills. During the summer after year 11 and completing my GCSEs, I was given an animal experience at Chester zoo. This involved me hand feeding the giraffes and having an hour session speaking to one of the keepers, giving me time to ask questions not just on giraffes themselves, but on animals found in safari as a whole. This experience helped to confirm my long-term goal of postgraduate work in this area. As my brother lives in Australia, I am able to visit him and see things from a different perspective, from the different species living there to the way conservation is dealt with in a different climatic

This was an invaluable experience as I was able to develop and enhance new skills. For example I was given the role of a leader to ensure that students were using the correct method on the mannequin. When we were given the task to stitch up the cut, I guided them; making sure that they all had clean hands and cleaned the injured area with antiseptic wipes before stitching. I was also able to enhance team-working skills as it was vital during this time. My communication skills also developed as I had to explain the methods clearly. This was a rewarding opportunity and gave me an insight into the work of a…

In order to become a veterinarian, however, I must first attend college, and work diligently to earn good grades. I want to study biology in college, because I enjoy learning about living organisms and their habitats. During college, I will try to earn more experience and knowledge by working as a veterinary assistant, getting an internship, shadowing, and/or helping with research to, hopefully, become a competitive candidate for veterinary school. After, completing veterinary school successfully I will be able to practice as a certified veterinarian. Although I am unsure as to what type of veterinarian I want to become, I like the idea of working with zoo animals and…

While sitting in the waiting room of an emergency veterinary clinic, dressed only in blood-soaked pajamas, my innocent dream became a serious aspiration. The veterinarian spoke to my mother while I listened intently. Our dog lost his leg but he was alive and would recover. Next, she turned to me. She smiled and told me that by staying calm, reacting quickly, and holding his artery shut, I saved our dog’s life. Her words were the catalyst that sparked my genuine desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.…
