George R. R. Martin’s short story about zombies does not focus on the zombie apocalypse as so many stories and movies do in today’s popular zombie culture. In what can only be assumed to be a far distant future, Martin’s zombies are surgically altered humans whose brains have been replaced by a synthetic alternative. This turns these formerly alive humans into form of cheap, or slave, labor that is exploited on planets where most humans are either unwilling, or unable to work (Martin, 2008). Martin’s zombies in this story harken back to the origins of the modern zombie mythos. Those being derived from the African slaves who toiled on the sugar plantations of Hatti (Estes, 2012). I do not think it is any coincidence that Martin’s zombies are…

Humans can try to prepare and prevent zombies from attacking, biting, and killing them, but it’s survivors personal fear that will ultimately put their life in the greatest danger. Fear can be controlled (just like zombies) if you recognize the signs and symptoms, you just have to educate yourself. Jurgen Warmbrunn, with help from Paul Knight, wrote a report that included critical information that says to kill a zombie, you must aim for the brain and not the heart (Brooks, 35). Jurgen and Paul noted the signs and recognized the symptoms and all that was left was for people to read the reports. If more people would have read the report, it could have saved millions of lives. Jurgen even said “if more people had read our report and worked to makes it recommendations a reality, then that plan would have never needed to exist”(Brooks, 36).…

According to the CIA World Factbook, Syria is mostly desert with a climate that is characterized by long summers with hot, dry, sunny weather. This makes it difficult for zombies to survive as zombies decay faster in the heat. Additionally, Syria can be divided into three different climate zones, all of which are unfavorable for zombies. The shots of guns ringing in the air, men falling at every turn, masses of blood flinging everywhere as shouts start to seize, why the violence? In February of 1861, Texas was the seventh state to secede from the Union, two months later a bloody battle was engaged between the Union, the North, and those who seceded, the Confederacy. After all Texas has been through to receive independence and gain an annexation to the United States, why have they entered another war? Texas enlisted into the Civil War believing they had the right to make their own decisions on states’ rights. 1346 to 1350 were years of utter hell in the mid-14th century. These were the years of the great pestilence otherwise known as the Black Death. This horrible disease caused the deaths of nearly half of Europe’s population. It came in three forms, bubonic, septicaemic and pneumonic, all of which eventually lead to death. There were many supposed cures for the disease such as sweet smelling herbs and spices, lancing of the buboes and bleeding the poison out of the body. Sadly, not one of these “cures” could ever be named as effective. As well as there being many “cures”, there were also many “causes” for the Black Death. Again, none of these were actually proven causes. Because many people were anti-Semitic, one of the leading beliefs of the time was that the Jews had brought the plague by poisoning the wells, this blame impacted the Jews greatly.…

In an apocalypse, healthy surviving humans should not be restricted to their means of travel. In order to stay alive, an adequate form of transportation is a necessity. Walking is too dangerous and slow, while a standard car purposes many different problems. A solar powered or a hydrogen fuel cell car are optimum modes of transportation during a zombie apocalypse.…

"By turning the world upside-down, the black death helped pave way for the new" (Giblin 44). There were many names for the Black Death including The Great Pestilence, The Great Plague, The Great Mortality, The Death, and The Black Plague. Genoan ships are thought to have brought the disease from Kaffa (Dunn 26). The bacteria first infected the black rats and transmitted the infection to humans by fleabites (Bagley 100). Once people are infected, they infect others very rapidly. Plague causes fever and a painful swelling of the lymph glands called buboes, which is how it gets its name (101). The symptoms of the plague were swelling in the groin of under the armpit, which grew to the size of a small apple or egg, also known as tumors. The tumors…
