According to the pathologist, Sir John Burton Cleland, emeritus professor at the University of Adelaide, the man was of "Britisher" appearance and thought to be aged about 40–45; he was in top physical condition.[10] He was 180 centimetres (5 ft 11 in) tall, with hazel eyes, fair to ginger-coloured hair,[11] slightly grey around the temples,[4] with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, hands and nails that showed no signs of manual labour, big and little toes that met in a wedge shape, like those of a dancer or someone who wore boots with pointed toes; and pronounced high calf muscles like those of a ballet dancer. These can be dominant genetic traits, and they are also a characteristic of many middle and long-distance runners.[notes 2] He was dressed in "quality clothing:" consisting of a white shirt, red and blue tie, brown trousers, socks and shoes and, although it had been a hot day and very warm night, a brown knitted pullover and fashionable European grey and brown double-breasted coat.[12] All labels on his clothes were missing, and he had no hat (unusual for 1948, and especially so for someone wearing a suit) or wallet.[4] Clean-shaven and with no distinguishing marks,[4] the man carried no identification, which led police to believe he had committed suicide.[13] His teeth did not match the dental records of any known person in Australia.[14]
Autopsy[edit]

An autopsy was conducted, and the pathologist estimated the time of death at around 2 a.m. on 1 December.[10]
"The heart was of normal size, and normal in every way ...small vessels not commonly observed in the brain were easily discernible with congestion. There was congestion of the pharynx, and the gullet was covered with whitening of superficial layers of the mucosa with a patch of ulceration in the middle of it. The stomach was deeply congested...There was congestion in the 2nd half of the duodenum. There was blood mixed with the food in the stomach. Both kidneys were congested, and the liver

On arrival, her pulse was 110, blood pressure was 106/60, RR (melatonin level) was 20, body temperature 98.3, pOx 98 (RA). She had a disconjugated gaze. Her skin appeared dry, pink, and warm. Bowel sounds were decreasing. An ECG with 12-lead showed a sinus curve of 110. She was in stable condition with consistent vital signs and slowly awakened throughout a 24-hr period. On the second day, she slept for excessive periods at a time. She also suffered “truncal ataxia” while in the sitting position, which still existed during walking and standing up the next day. On the fourth day, she showed trouble with fine motor skills, but was discharged. The girl was monitored for seven days as symptoms receded and no abnormal condition resulted…

The arterial blood gas showed findings of respiratory alkalosis with metabolic acidosis. The excessive loss of carbon dioxide through hyperventilation and hypoxemia was an early stage of pulmonary problems such as pneumonia and asthma. The urinalysis showed findings of proteinuria and turbid transparency, which indicate internal inflammation and renal infection. The peripheral blood smear revealed normochromic erythrocytes with slight anisocytosis, which manifested as a form of anemia and an unequal size of her red blood cells. The blood culture and sensitivity read positive for growth of bacteria. The cranial ultrasound revealed an impression of mild hydrocephalus and was given an osmotic diuretic, Mannitol to decrease the pressure on the brain. * It results in severe neurological deficits in infancy if it is unrecognized or left untreated. PKU is present in about 3.5 in 10,000 newborns in the U.S. In this disease, phenylalanine and its by-products accumulate in the body, esp. in the nervous system, where they cause severe mental retardation (IQ test results often below 40), seizure disorders, tremors, gait disturbances, coordination deficits, and psychotic or autistic behavior. Eczema and an abnormal skin odor also are characteristic. The consequences of PKU can be prevented if it is recognized in the first weeks of life and a phenylalanine-restricted (very low protein) diet is maintained throughout infancy, childhood, and young adulthood.…

In this paper, every OPINION from someone else has been acknowledged in a parenthetical citation. I realize that the mere presence of a parenthetical citation does not avoid plagiarism. If I have used the exact words, phrases, clauses, or sentences of someone else, I have enclosed that information in quotation marks. If I have summarized the opinions of someone else, I have not enclosed the summary in quotation marks; but I have stated those opinions in my own words. I have also introduced the summary and used a parenthetical citation to acknowledge the source.…
