Youth Hunt Narrative
“Wake up” my Dad said to me “It’s time to go out, get your stuff on”
I got up and put my stuff on “I’m ready” I said as I headed out the door.I was sitting with my dad. It was a good 22 degrees outside.I was hunting in Suamico. My stand was about 200 maybe more yards away. Wyatt Kaczrowski and Brady Eick were not hunting very far away from me in the woods. I then saw my ground blind and was ready to hunt. It was the youth hunt and I was heading out on a journey I would never forget. It was a Saturday morning. I did not see anything besides the squirrels that were staring me in the face and saying, “sorry nothing today.” I went again later that day at about one o’clock. I was sitting there as i saw nothing again it was just a bad day for hunting didn’t see anything

that Sunday morning I told my dad “I’m shooting something today.”As I got out to my stand at about six o’clock in the morning. I saw a fawn that morning but we don’t shoot fawns even if it was my first deer.Me and my dad were back in that old ground blind in Suamico that night at one o’clock. Then it was about seven o’clock getting dark we were about to leave until a doe came out of that woods. The doe looked nice like it ate a lot I put my 270 rifle on a board to rest it on. Then I put the crosshairs on his heart and BOOM! I sat right there happy as can be. Then we hear another bang Wyatt shot a deer to, I thought to myself. Then the search began for my deer. It was dark so we could not see the dark red blood. My dad had a flashlight we looked and about ten yards into the woods my doe was sitting there. I was so happy that I shot my first deer. She weighed about 150 pounds. And it turns out I was right Wyatt shot a three pointer. That day was a great day for hunting. That night with those two deer down was great. As it was now gun season and I was ready to hunt. I was in the stand and then that 8 pointer that was on camera walked by my

It was crazy to start the hike with green grass but end up in snow and freezing rain and mud. On one part of trail we were hiking and fell into the icy cold river. We had to peel our boots, socks and pants and put our thermal gear on. Of course this brought on more rain. We sprinted down a large mountain while freezing cold with no boots or socks on. Everyone was miserable. We finally made it to our campsite, where we started a fire and listened to bugling Elk while staring at the stars. We woke up the next morning to three large Mule Deer looking into our tent.…

Throughout the years of going hunting with my dad I have learned and gained many new skills that not many people are able to say that they have. I also gained the opportunity to kill multiple deer while sitting with him. As I got older I eventually got to the point of being able to go by myself. Soon after I began to go alone it made me gain more responsibility due to knowing how to properly operate a firearm and knowing the right way to do things to remain safe.…

Will had grown up hunting with his father and felt that he had the sport down to a science. Hunting for both food and sport, his rifle had brought down even the most wary of prey. With the coming of a new season; however, a new challenge had arisen: bow-hunting. Setting off into familiar mountains with an unfamiliar weapon, he began his hunt for a male, bull, elk. It was here that his whole perception of hunting changed. While sitting in his tree stand over a wallow, a spring dug up by animals, a massive bull wandered in to get a drink and initiated a single moment, lasting seconds, which he would never forget.…

I should’ve known something was wrong when the dear fell into the road on my way to the top of the Roan. I was driving along the rough road up the Roan, when out of nowhere, what appeared to be a yearling doe fell from the top of the Plateau and started running at full speed down the mountain. I assumed the doe had gotten a late start and was trying to catch up with her herd, but it had a primal fear in its eyes that I thought was brought on by the unexpected sight of me in the truck. This was odd because deer aren't…

All I could see was the big eight point run into the distance, his tail held high. At this time, I see out of the corner of my eye the smaller six point. I eject the bullet and cock another into the chamber. The buck peered into the stand right at me! As if he were allowing me to take him out. I pushed my gun back out the window and put my crosshair back onto the chest of the buck.…

It was late October and as a high school football trainer, he finally had a Friday evening off and wanted to make the most of it. We drove south to my uncle's farm in Owen County, Kentucky, and stayed the night in his very primitive trailer to stage an early morning hunt. That morning my father and I headed into the woods with our muzzle loading rifles; his was a hand made replica of a Kentucky Long Rifle and mine was a $100 starter rifle. We took our spots in a tree stand we built the Saturday before. The stand was perfect for two people; sitting back to back we could each see our respective ends of the fields as well as a decent distance into the woods on the opposite side of the…

I was 10 years old and It was Sunday at 5:00 AM in the morning. I woke up and went and hopped in the shower then I got done and walked out into my room and put my clothes on but, not just any ordinary clothes these clothes were washed in “no scent” which says what it does. it is a company that makes a liquid and that liquid can be sprayed used a laundry detergent or anything. Then I went into the living room where my dad was; and he had already completed these steps that I have completed. Next we got the 308 rifle and the 30-6 rifle out of the car and bring the guns into the living room. Next I made sure I had the right bullets because a long time ago before I could hunt with a gun and would just have…

Walking down the trail with my bow in hands I couldn't wait to see some deer. An hour goes by and by then the sun was shining with an almost perfect wind blowing my scent away from the field to behind me. The first deer i saw was a small fawn and decided to give it a pass. Another hour goes by and I hear movement to my right and look to see a set of antlers slowly approaching. By now my heart is beating like a drum I have to make the decision as I see him turning away. The choice is easy I draw back and as I do so the deer hears the arrow sliding across the arrow reas and suddenly becomes alert and quickly walks off out of range. My heart drops and all i'm thinking is how I could've changed that day. After all that work i have nothing to show for, at least not yet. On that day i learned that it's ok to take a chance and you can't always control what's going to happen…

Most Texas natives know that deer hunting is a tradition. However, some of us haven’t been on the other side of the scale, the hunted. Though hunting can be fun, I’ve learned to definitely be prepared for whatever happens. Last year I had my first experience and it was a crazy one. In two short days, I went from being the hunter to being hunted. For most Texans, hunting is fun, however proper preparation is key because one should avoid mistakenly taking an unloaded gun, be attentive to the surroundings, and should not set expectations.…

I was ten feet away from those deer, and they had no idea I was there. I still couldn’t even see the rest because they were still laying down. I purposely made a noise with my foot, just to startle them so I could get a good look at what my options were. A deer stood up right in front of me, with one single pointed antler on the right side of his head. I pulled the radio from my belt and said, “Should I shoot it?” My dad replied, “no I wouldn’t he’s pretty small.” So I didn’t. And to my surprise after all that noise I was making that dumb deer was still standing there looking at me, still ten feet…

After I ate I went and got all the hunting stuff on like heavy-duty paints and shirts. Stuff like that. All my hunting stuff that I just put on my dad sprayed with no sent the night before. No sent is an oil that takes the human sent away so the deer won’t run away if they smell something. After we all got the rest of our hunting stuff on we started our little walk out in the woods about a little father that a mile behind our house. When we finally got there my dad sprayed deer sent that would attract the deer to come closer when the wind carries the sent.…
