You Never Have to Grow Up!

My grandma was a role model to me, she taught me “ to never grow up!” She never did grow to old age. Even when she was in the hospital on her deathbed. She always moved around with so much energy.

Whatever us kids wanted to do she was right along side us. Whether it was staying up all night watching movies, playing at the park, or even playing computer games. She was always there the whole time.

When she was texting her grandkids she texted like she was a teenager. When she was on her bed at the hospital after finding out that she had a brain tumor, just before she died, she was just a texting and calling away to everyone!!

I still remember when she would hold on to her back and say, “ I’m getting to old for this stuff guys.” Then we would all, even her, start laughing. She use to wake me up in the morning by rubbing my back. No matter how hard I tried I could never wake up before her. She wouldn’t let me.

I used to get laughed at because I would say that I wanted to go spend time with my grandma all the time. I didn’t care. She was never my, “ grandma,” she was always more of my friend than anything.

I guess what she taught me is that you don’t have to be young to be a kid. And that you don’t have to be old if you don’t want to be. She always said that she didn’t want to miss any time with us like her grandparents did with her that’s why she was always with

My grandfather has and always will be my role model. I treasure many memories of him and I devoting our time to serving of our community. He led a local food pantry that required him to continually shop for food, then deliver it to his food pantry. About five years ago, together we made numerous Thanksgiving baskets. On Thanksgiving morning, we rode in his filled up truck and delivered them to countless families who may have not been able to experience the typical holiday meal without some assistance.…

My grandmother displays excellent leadership qualities in her friendships, business relationships, and associative relationships. She has a charisma that makes others feel better about themselves, making it easy for people to put their trust and her and look up to her. Anything that my grandmother commits herself to, she will see it out to the end. She’s a person that is persistent in achieving the goals she set without be conniving or deceiving, my grandmother believes that doing something the right way is the only way to do it. She always uses the phrase, “If you use shortcuts in life you will get cut short”. That phrase has stuck with me until this day and so have the morals and values she’s instilled in me. When I feel like things are caving in around me and I can no longer go forward or excel in things I’m doing it, I call my grandmother for support and inspiration. She always makes me feel like giving up isn’t an option. She also has taught me to not treat all people with kindness and respect, even people who has tried and tried to throw obstacles on my pathway to success. I believe for a person to treat people with something they have never treated them with takes a lot of humbleness and lack of pride.…

She did not take crap from anyone, she was feisty and she would let you know what she thought of you. I remember as a child, she would tell us about growing up in the Great Depression. She would talk about how hard it was during this time. She also talked about growing up without a lot of food. She used to make the best brown beans and cornbread which she learned how to make because during the Great Depression, it is all they had to eat. She talked about eating them at least twice a day for months. She was a homemaker most of the time and she had only one job (outside of the house and farm) working in the laundry at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Virginia. She would milk the cows and raise a garden every year. She had been raised in West Virginia and then she moved to South Webster, Ohio, in her…
