MYF- Questions to Evaluate Yourself
“Your Goals and Values”
1. What aspects of your high school years have you enjoyed most? Have you missed out on anything? If you could live this period over again, would you do anything differently?
The most valuable aspects of high school to me have been my time spent on my XC and Spring Track teams as well as participating in the musical. Immersion in these activities has taught me a lot about the camaraderie of social activities and more than anything else has prepared me for what I largely anticipate college life to be like. If I have missed any opportunities in high school, they would probably simply be not getting involved in activities earlier. Especially in my freshmen year, I think I was too timid to join clubs and sports, and even in the things I did participate in, I did not apply myself fully. If I could relive this period, I would’ve exerted the same amount of effort that I do now into activities such as my running seasons and the performing arts.
2. What values are most important to you? What do you care most about? What concerns occupy most of your energy, efforts and thoughts?
I believe that the most important value that anyone can have is simply a true passion for what they do and an admiration for those that do the same. I’ve come to realize that people, me included, can spend too much time wrapped up in the ideals of others. If you don’t like what you’re doing, you should find something different as opposed to conforming to that idea simply to please someone who believes in it more then you. Dedication should come from passion as opposed to obligation. That being said, I cannot pretend that I am completely committed to this rule. My concerns, especially in school, fall into primarily being worried that I am not appreciated for what I do. As such, I strive to perform in ways that will give me recognition with those that I want to respect me, and as such I can achieve

The beginning of my freshman year in high school changed my life. I had set many types of goals for myself this year including making friends, helping others and being a part of the most incredible organization, Blue Guards. Blue Guards is apart of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Oxon Hill High School. Blue Guards was not only a drill team, it was a family, a family of girls and boys working together, leading others, having discipline, and respecting each other as a team. Walking into the first day of school knowing I was going to be part of this team made me light up like a light bulb.…

High school has been an unyielding path. These four years of my high school career have had some positive and even some negative conflicts. Initially, I was very naive and I did not put much effort into school. My grades had dropped at a point where I was having some difficulty to bring them back up, mainly because I was never too strong in subjects such as math or English. But that was an issue that I had to face by worrying less and concentrating more. However, throughout these four years of high school I have improved my ability to learn and also have identified the creative and thoughtful side of me and with these skills I have given back to my community by making it cleaner and more efficient for the next generation. Thankfully, with…

Sometimes high school doesn’t really prepare students for college because they never get a realistic view of life. Even in high school you’re sheltered and teachers constantly remind you of assignments. Professors won’t waste their time reminding a student of their assignments. You receive a syllabus and they expect you to be aware of all the readings and upcoming assignments. Many turn to the social scene when work is too hard.…

High School was a great experience. Not only did it teach me about Math, History and English, but it also taught me about choices and consequences. I had several close friends who did not get the same experience that I did. One of my friends had a rough start in life. At the end of our junior year she became pregnant with her first child. We started our senior year ready to celebrate our high school years coming to an end. She had so many plans for after high school. As the school year went on she expressed to me how her child father was being very supportive at first, but recently felt that he was no longer treating her the same.…
