Year Round School Should Not Happen
Year Round School Persuasive Essay Final Draft

Having school year round is one of the worst things you can do to a student. Students may miss out on opportunities to spend time with other kids of different ages, miss out on their childhoods. Children with learning problems will fall way behind than other kids and their learning would be compounded. And most students will forget things no matter what therefore teachers will have to perform four beginning of the year instead of one. Kids will not have the opportunity to worry so much about school and other things like homework. Students will not have the opportunity to be a kid and hang out with their friends some of different ages. They would miss out on having a great or at least good childhood and it won’t be fair and fun for them. Can’t enjoy going to different museums and amusement parks. The students wouldn’t get the time to go on a vacation and explore new things in the world. Also couldn’t really have fun playing around with other kids because they would be stuck in school doing work all year long (Morin, Amanda. "The Pros and Cons of Year Round School." About.com School-Age Children. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct. 2012. http://childparenting.about.com/od/schoollearning/a/year-round-school-pros-cons.htm)

Children with learning problems or learning disabilities will fall way behind in school. There will not be any time to spend one on one with their teachers. Those students wouldn’t be able to catch up with the rest of the students that do not have that problem. And they would not do very well in school. Would not learn anything they would just forget about it all. Can’t focus on school they are worrying too much about everyone else so they would just not succeed ("Some Talking Points on Year-Round School." Year Round Schools. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct. 2012. http://www.summermatters.com/yrschools.htm)

Kids will forget things no matter what it is; therefore teachers will perform four beginning of the year instead of one. Every kid no matter who it is has a lot of things on their minds and will not remember some things that are important. They are probably thinking about how their life would be if they could have some fun and enjoy themselves. No matter what they will need to be reminded on the stuff they just learned that is important to know. Teachers have to go over stuff and help out a bit so they can understand things better ("Year Round Education." About.com Secondary Education. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct. 2012. http://712educators.about.com/cs/reformtime/a/yearrounded.htm)

Basically year round would be the bad for the students. Students would miss out on being a kid and enjoying life. The students with learning problems would have a hard time keeping up with their class. Kids/ teenagers will not really remember most of the stuff they are taught now so that won’t make any difference. It’s just better to leave school the way it is now so it will not be too on some/most students so they might pass.

Schools should be year-round because of many factors like the fact that year-round schooling can generate strong feelings. A 1994 report, “Prisoners of Time,” argued that “a departure from the traditional school calendar could better meet the needs of contemporary society and result in increased student achievement.” Research has also shown that year-round schooling does have an effective on students. Reviews of existing literature on this subject generally contend that the achievement of children in year-round schools is as good as, or slightly better than, that of their peers in traditional schools (Palmer & Bemis, 1999; Kneese, 1996). Another example would be a study on six elementary schools where year-round schools posted overall-test-score increases that was higher than those of traditional schools (Kneese, 2000). Schools should also be year-round because the common belief is that after a long three-month summer break, students are forgetting what they learned the previous year and teachers are wasting valuable time trying to review everything from the previous year. A review of 39 studies that has been conducted showed that students test scores drop over summer vacation and that mathematics…

One of the major benefits of year-round school is that it aids students in a way that they can increase their overall grade. Students are less likely to forget what they have previously learned in school due to the lack of large breaks in the school year. Most importantly, there is more time. More time for school means more time can be devoted to each unit or section of material a teacher is covering. Less pressure to learn information in two weeks or even a month can help students apply their new knowledge to the long-term memory and gives more time for student to comprehend ideas in a more complex manor.…

Teachers also will not have enough time to plan their lesson plan or syllabus. The effect of this is, students may end up having to use old facilities, and teachers would rush to plan their lesson plan ahead of time.
