Introduction
The YMCA was founded by George Williams, a London draper. Williams was the typical man who was drawn by the Industrial Revolution. Williams and his colleagues became concerned about the lack of healthy activities for the young men and men of the future in their respective cities while the only options available were taverns and brothels. Not long after, Williams began to conduct prayer meetings and Bible readings amongst his fellow peers and coworkers in the city of London, Paris. That’s because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. The YMCA states that “We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be focused and accountable.” The YMCA, measures the success of our cause by how well they engage communities within our three areas of focus which are Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. My personal reaction when visiting the downtown YMCA facility was that everything seemed well organized. From the moment you walk through the door you had immediate help from staff members trying to assist you in whatever you needed. The staff members were able to answer any questions I had prepared for them and even gave me a tour of the whole facility. During the tour I was impressed with how detailed and well the staff member was with explaining what programs were available within the facility. He presented a whole lay out on how I would go about joining the different programs they had available, fee information, and the certain age groups I could expect to see within certain programs. It gave me the impression that they really care about their customers and want their customers to have the best experience if they so choose to join their agency. I also was impressed with their brochure section. There were dozens of booklets and forms explaining what their facility had to offer and quick overviews of where your money would be going. There isn’t much I can say that didn’t impress me but if I had to choose something I would have to say I was not impressed with the overall location of the facility. This facility is located in one of the busiest areas in Durham, which is downtown Durham. This could possibly make it extremely
