Write An Essay About Moving To College
One month, that’s how long my parents gave my sisters and me to pack everything that we had, say bye to everyone we loved, and get ready to start a completely new life. Moving here to the United States from Brazil wasn’t an easy thing to do, having to make new friends after knowing the same people since I was a kid was hard, getting used to a new educational system was also challenging, but nothing compares to learning a completely new language and having to do all these things while not being able to communicate, all at the age of 13. These things shaped me as a person because it made me confident, caring, and determined. Initially, moving to the US shaped me as a person because it made me confident. As I said, starting a new life in a new country was not easy, and having to go on the first day of school was probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done. I remember clearly the moment when the principle turned to tell my parents and me that I had to go into the classroom. How could I? I was so scared, what if no one liked me? What if people thought I was weird? Or they just didn’t like me for who I was? And even worse, what if I needed something? What if I just had to talk to someone? I clearly wouldn’t be able to. But I …show more content…
The months went by and it was pretty good, I would go to class, try my best to do what was expected, and just blend in. But one thing was still hard since I couldn’t talk I wasn’t able to make friends, and no one really reached out to me. In the first week or so some people did try to talk to me but as soon as I would say that I didn’t speak English they would leave, I mean I don’t blame them, we wouldn’t be able to really do anything, the most we could probably stare at each other’s face, but that wouldn’t really make us friends. That is why I always try to include someone new because I myself was in their shoes before, so I try to be as caring and friendly as

Indeed, moving to United states was not easy as I expected but it was fun and exciting. I did not know before why my parents wanted me to face new experiences, but now I understand that everything they were doing and still doing for me is an expression for their love to me. I still remember the day when my mom cut my hair, I was sad, I did not know why she wanted to do that, but today I realize that it was an experience of love, she wanted to show me that I was not making right choices when I used to go out without telling her. When I got here to United States, I did not speak english and I felt as my life started over because I could not talk or do anything since the…

Throughout my life I have encountered many circumstances that have shaped me into the person I am today. I was born in Moroleon, Guanajuato, Mexico. I attended school in Mexico all the way to second grade. In the summer of 2006 I moved to Cumming, Georgia. It was the hardest thing to do because I left everything that I care the most about. We lived in a trailer which was not the nicest place and in the middle of the forest. I started school at the beginning of August. I had always loved school so I was so excited for the first day. I knew it was going to be hard because I would have to conquer so many obstacles on the way. At this time the only English I knew was probably counting from one to ten and some of the colors. My Father knew some…

College plays a role a student’s life, one of these roles are to help get students a better job that pays them a lot but that isn’t the only reason. According to Melisa McCreery “Higher education provides a number of benefits; most notably to the nation’s economic stability and job creation, civic engagement, and pulling students from low socioeconomic situation and landing them securely in middle class America.” In other words college is to help better a student’s life as well as to help them be able to contribute to society positively. College also provides many classes that can help students achieve their full potential when they are out in the world as well and making you better understand the world. I still wasn’t able to learn the culture and fit in, and this initial challenge became even harder during high school as the community became bigger and I was still treated as an alien. My father wasn’t able to help me much since he didn’t know about how life worked here either and didn’t have the time and focus to fully keep an eye on how I did in school. Even though he showed me how to succeed in school, it was still significantly different than in Egypt and that is why my challenges increased. I had to embark on this journey of new experiences all alone since I’m the first to go through all these adjustments. It was all up to me to learn from the experiences I went through in high school and my teenage life in America. With all the changes happening in my life as a teenager and as a foreigner in a different country, I didn’t have the motivation to pull the best grades or to be a top student during my high school career. High school was a learning curve for me. Even though I didn’t do well and didn’t go onto a reputable four-year institution, I matured and learned to be successful during high school by failing my standards and learning how serious and demanding it is to lose my chance of becoming successful. Even though differences in the American culture and the system posed plenty of challenges for me, I was very thankful that it was different from my home…

The day started off as any normal day. My mother woke me up and said “we must go.” Her voice sounded very urgent for what I thought was just a trip to the grocery store. My mom laid my outfit on my bed and packed by book bag; that’s when I figured out that I was starting school. I wasn’t entirely oblivious to the fact that I was going to familiarize myself with a completely different environment, but I just thought I had a little more time to prepare. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. You see, I wasn’t your average pre-schooler who was nervous about making friends. I was the immigrant child who had never spoken a word of English.…

And it was prairie to coming to America. When I and my family came to United State I was at the age of 17, and I started going to school in 10th grade in the cities. Where I learned most of my English skills, I was so nervous at the first time that I started the school in America but at the same time I was happy to start new school. Even though, it was the very hardest part of coming to a new country, I did not give up. I had lack of understanding with the students and teachers, because mostly was my language pairs. The accent was kind of British and my English language was not that good I was now too. I struggled for two consecutive years and I was tried to improve the way I used to spoke. I finally graduated from high school in June of 2013,…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

Coming to America was not easy for my parents, especially considering the fact that I, less than a year old, was with them. We first lived in Michigan for two years and then moved to sunny California into a one-bedroom apartment in Torrance. I grew up as a happy, carefree kid, oblivious to my parent’s constant worries. However, it was when I attended kindergarten that I was forced to face society’s standards. My naïvely innocent attitude made the other kids avoid me and I was the target of constant teasing for two guys in my class. It was then that my five year old self realized that I didn’t fit in. I was different from other people. As a result, I became timid, avoiding others.…
