When she talked about her father, who was in charge of her household, or when I ate dinner and watched her parents’ interactions, which were very different than those of my own mother and father, I just didn’t think about it. Efe and I never really talked about the differences between our lives. I never asked about her family or time in Nigeria and she never asked me about what it was like moving all the time. If I were in the same situation again today, I would definitely make more of an attempt to understand the differences between us instead of ignoring them. While Efe and I were best friends despite our differences and never let those differences affect the way we treated each other, looking back I know there was a lot that I didn’t know about her and vice versa. I wish I had taken the time to ask about her family in Nigeria and about what it was like to be from two different countries. I wish I had asked her if she felt like people treated her differently in either country because she had two nationalities. I have so many questions that I never asked and I wish that I
