Would I Let My Son Play Football Summary
After Reading Scott Fujita’s article “Would I let My Son Play Football”, I would still allow my son to play football because it is sport that will make someone better at mostly all aspects of life.

In the article on page two Scott Fujita states and I quote “ I have developed a love hate relationship with football.” (from pg.2) I Agree with this statement because it shows that even though he’s opposed to the fact of his son playing football he still loves it and has gained so much from the sport such as, being comfortably paid, fame, friends, a wife and two daughters. Even so he still has to look at it in a negative way because he still suffers from injuries he’s seen people get hurt and worst from injuries and yet not one person is doing

The research topic that I will be investigating is the relationship between high impact sports and their negative health effects, specifically the effort to make these sports safer. The research that I looked at in the past went slightly into the effects of these sports on children. It also made a point of criticizing society on why we feel the way that we do on this issue. Mainly, why we tend to care more about our health in regards to many other issues. The article Don't let kids Play Football, by Bennet Omalu does a good job of providing evidence and reasons on why not to let children play football. My current belief on this issue though is that while these sports have many negative effects, they are too ingrained in our culture to ban…

Would I Let My Son Play Football? My answer is yes, but at the same time there are plenty of risk that come with this decision. There are plenty of many cases where a student was injured playing this sport, but I would still let my son play football. In Scott Fujita’s “Would I Let My Son Play Football” he gives us plenty of insight on football and the injuries that can occur at any given moment. I’m very aware of all the downfalls that come with football, but there all lots of plusses that are not usually never broadcasted.…

Children under the age of 12 should not be able to play tackle football. The risk of brain trauma and even death could be caused by kids playing tackle football. Children under 12 are still growing and so they're fragile, their bodies are not tough enough to protect them against a head bang. To start off with, brain trauma occurs when external force injures the brain, this happens a lot in tackle football. Children under 12 can be permanently injured by impact or even killed! Flag football should be the only type of football that children under 12 could play, it’s safe, low risk of injury and bets of all, no brain trauma!…

Football, like every sport has its risks, but so the players should be able to make their own decisions when it comes to whether or not they play. To most people football is just a game where people throw a ball and tackle each other, but to certain families and people it is more than just a game. It is a way of a life and there is more to risk out on that field than just winning or losing. There are repercussions if we were to cut out the game, football players and others gain from the game, and it brings people and communities together in unimaginable ways.…

After reading the article “Would I Let My Son Play Football?” by Scott Fujita, I would definitely let my child play the sport ,despite the fact that the sport has many negative side effects. What is really hypocritical to me is when Scott states “No.” (Fujita 2), when he was asked if he would let his son play football. I disagree with what he said because he played football his whole life. How is it possible that he loves the sport, but would not allow his child to play? One quote I do agree with is when he said “..now I actually get paid to talk about football on television. Imagine the hypocrisy”(Fujita 4). I agree with the quote because it is ironic to me how he was an NFL player and loved the sport, but is now talking down on it and realises…

Parents protect their children from drugs and dangerous situations for eighteen yeas only to realize that they should have protected them from their own good judgement. It has been known for over two decades that continuous blows to the head during physical performance in sports, places athletes at a high risk of permanent brain damage. These sports also pose a threat to adolescent children due to the connection between brain damage and conditions such as depression, suicidal thoughts, and memory loss. “Don’t let kids play football” is rhetorically persuasive because of the speakers’ background relating to the human brain, suggesting that the audience is responsible for the harm caused to children when playing dangerous sports, and effectively emphasizing the idea of protecting all children from harm.…

The author of the article, “Offensive Play” is Malcolm Gladwell. He is a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine, and has published four books. “Offensive Play” was published in the October 19th, 2009 edition. The New Yorker began February 21, 1925, and is now published forty-seven times annually. It focuses on arts, culture, politics, sports, medicine, etc. Anything enticing the wealthy, middle-class and metropolitan is what it is geared towards. In addition, it has also won many awards. I believe that The New Yorker is up to date because the year 2009 was not too long ago for a great deal of information to supersede what we now know. Mr. Gladwell did not have a “pre-set” perspective on things because he gives you clear facts about the article “Offensive Play” and the dangers of football, so we can read it with an open mind and figure out what to do. The intended audience for “Offensive Play” was for doctors’ for research, fans and athletes. This article seemed to have a good balance aimed towards the population in general because it gives you background information on researchers, the injuries involved, the sport, and what it is we can do. Obviously, Mr. Gladwell had a clear motive to write this article. He wanted to let the public know the dangers of the National Football League, and what illnesses develop in former players’ so perhaps, we can think of ways to make it safer. “Offensive Play” was written to inform you of the dangers of the N.F.L. Mr. Gladwell gives us both sides of the topic; how it’s dangerous to play, but there are things that can be done to improve the health and overall wellbeing of the players’. I didn’t feel an emotional punch from reading this article; although, it did make me more aware of the effects of playing the sport.…

Parents are always over protective. If i were a parent, I would let my child play football. Football is not always about taking hits. For example, “...foot gave me so much. How can i bas on a game that produced many friendships, paid for a part of my education…” (Fujita3). This example shows that the game is more than just a game. Football interaction can not only create team building skills, it can also create family and an everlasting bond. Football gives you motivation and the support to do better in your education. Another example from the article “Would I Let My Son Play Football?’ is “N.F.L. players are bigger, faster and stronger than they’ve ever been” (Fujita3). Football players are in better shape and healthy considering all the physical…

One reason why I would allow my son to play football is because it will build his character. “The game challenges and pushes us. It’s often uncomfortable. It requires us to be at our best” (Harbaugh, John). Football has players challenging themselves to see if they can handle it. Those that persevere, develop the “never give up” mentality and carry it with them throughout their life, allowing them to succeed in everything they set their minds to.…

Hello Steven. I like reading your discussion you brought a different view that me. Children should be allowed to play football, but I believe that it should be an age limit to when a child can start to play the sport. I do agree that children today are more sheltered, but I like to say protected. I am a mother of a 3 year old son and if he wants to play football I will let him try, but knowing what I know, I prefer that he didn’t. One bad hit can change a child’s life forever.…

Some parents think that their children shouldn’t play football because their afraid that their child may get hurt or they might start failing in school, but that won’t happen. In football, children do have injuries, but a child gets hurt just as much not playing football as they do playing football, such as riding a bike, or jumping on a trampoline. Also not all children will fail from playing football, and the only ones that do fail, are the ones that don’t try in class, also in football if you start to fail the coaches will take you out of football, which means that they would actually try harder in school to get better grades than they had before.…

My favorite sport is foot ball. Foot ball is considered a contact sport. It allows you to meet other boys my age. But most of all it helps me to build physically and mentally. There is nothing like getting in to the uniform and out on the field. I like to look at the crowd and hope they are going to cheer for my team. Before we get on the field, we have to do a few exercises which keeps us limber and in shape. We do push up and run, there are other exercises we have to do in our practice sessions. Which is at least 4 times week? I believe in football you get more exercises than any other sport. I like the fact that we can play under the lights at night. This seems to be the best time to draw a crowd to cheer you on and parents aren't so apt to be working so they can come and enjoy the game. Nothing makes me prouder than to have my dad tell me what a good job i did. My dad loves football as much as I do and it seems to bring us together more. We watch a lot of football on television. Yes, you can get hurt in football, which is why some kids don't want to play. But, some hospital records show that you get hurt just as much or even more playing soccer. You can get hurt playing baseball and some of the other sports also. To be honest, I would not suggest playing a sport of any kind if you are afraid of getting hurt. Not only do you get the satisfaction of playing the sport, you can also get the attention of the cheerleaders. Who wouldn't want that? I have played football since I was A young boy and I hope to play in college. Who knows I may get scouted for the major leagues. Yes football is my favorite sport whether I am playing or watching it on…

Many American parents struggle to answer the puzzling question of what the appropriate age children should start to participate in competitive sports. A subject like this is puzzling because there are many issues that must be addressed, because it is controversial.

Some American parents push their children too far, too young. The average American child usually will start to participate actively in competitive sports between the ages of six and twelve and can be unhealthy to a child's development (CWG 131). The question at what age a child should start, has a different answer for each individual child. Parents often fail to realize that their child may not be physically ready for competitive sports, even though the child is ready. I believe that a child should participate in sports only if he is wanting too participate and is not pushed by their parents. Every parent has a different way of looking at, if their child is ready to start. If a six year little boy wanted to start playing football, the child may not be fully capable of handling such strength and tension that might cause a life long injury (Koppett 294). Some parents may think he is ready, but is probably not. Determining whether or not a child is ready for competitive sports can sometimes be difficult to answer, because to determine if they are ready a child must be mentally ready also. Sports not only take physical strength, but a child must have psychological capacity to get them through such strenuous activity. A child may sometimes become scared when participating in sports. For example, A mother of an eight-year-old Peewee Football player explained, "The kids get so scared. They get hit once and they don't want anything to do with football anymore. They'll sit on the bench and pretend their leg hurts..."(qtd. In Tosched A32). This quote is a true statement because if a six-year-old child is playing peewee football with an eight-year-old, the eight-year old is a lot bigger that the six year…
