World War One
World War 1

“The war to end all wars.” This was the common name used for World War 1 but truthfully I do not believe there will ever be a war that ends all wars forever. This war struck fear into the hearts of not only soldiers in the war but citizens caught in the cross fire of the hatred that was plaguing our world. This war started for many reasons such as nationalism, imperialism, militarism and the formations of alliances. But the main reason this war was fought was because of a countries thirst for power and their greed for others to fear them. Because of these qualities taking over the consciousness of national leaders, our world is still scarred by the cruelty of this war. The countries that formed The Triple Entente or the Allies included France, Britain and Russia. The reason for Russia’s involvement in the war was so they could gain access to the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the other countries entered to protect themselves because they were being caught in a fight that wasn’t theirs, such as the United States. Other countries were upholding the responsibilities of having alliances with other countries in the war. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, for what was later known as the Central Powers, because they were in the center of all the fighting. Germany’s reason for entering into this slaughter fest was so they could have a rail road link to the Ottoman Empire. Austria-Hungary jumped on board because they accused Serbia of forcing its rule onto Bosnia. The reason for the United States entering into this blood bath was because other counties abused the trust that Americans had in their word. Because the British blockade stopped cargo ships from traveling from the U.S. to Germany, it was causing famine in Germany upsetting its leaders. As the blockade continued, Germany became very ruthless and fought back at any cost. They attacked ships carrying American citizens, the U.S. was outraged by this because those ships carried

Wars are large and complicated affairs. The first word war was the product of many, many things. Although the war officially began on July 28th, 1914, it had been building up for a while. The beginning of the war was much like a domino affect. It started when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. On July 29, Russia ordered a mobilization only against Austria-Hungary in support of Serbia. The Germans threatened war on July 31 if the Russians did not demobilize. France then mobilized. On August 1, Germany declared war on Russia, and two days later, on France. The German invasion of Belgium to attack France, which violated Belgium's official neutrality, prompted Britain to declare war on Germany. World War I had begun. Nationalism, militarism, and imperialism all prompted the rivalry between nations which led to WWI.…

The war was propagated by two major alliances. The Entente Powers initially consisted of France, the United Kingdom, Russia, and their associated empires and dependencies. Numerous other states joined these allies, most notably Italy in April 1915, and the United States in April 1917. “The War to End All Wars” was erupted in 1914 with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand Archduke of Austria-Hungary. The war quickly consumed many countries, with Germany, Austria-Hungry, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria making the Central Powers, vs France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, and later the United States making up the Allied Powers. Originally the United States under President Woodrow Wilson was neutral and wanted to stay out of the war since it was in Europe. However, on April 6, 1917 America declared war on Germany, thus entering it into WWI.
