Firstly, Google was invented by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They both meet in Stanford University, when Brin was assigned to show Page around the school. Brin and Page began collaborating on a search engine called BackRub that operated on Stanford servers for more than a year, eventually taking up too much bandwidth, so they had to take it down(“ Our History” 2). …show more content…
On February 26, 1993, Terrorists parked a rental van in a garage underneath the World Trade Center's twin towers and lit the fuses on a massive homemade bomb(Greenspan 1). With the alleged goal of toppling the north tower into the south tower(Greenspan 4). Six people died and more than 1000 were injured in the subsequent explosion, which carved out a crater several stories deep(Greenspan 1). At the time, it was one of the worst terrorist attacks ever to occur on U.S. soil(Greenspan 1). The terrorists involved in the attack were Ahmad Ajaj, Nidal Ayyad, Mahmud Abouhalima, and Mohammed Salameh. In March 1994, a federal jury convicted the four of them for their side in the bombing, and they were each sentenced to life behind bars(Greenspan 8). The FBI later called it “the largest by weight and by damage of any improvised explosive device that we've seen”(Greenspan 6). This horrible terrorist attack has changed the way we handle security in the U.S, especially when entering the country. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing has influenced the life of Americans in many different ways and will always be …show more content…
After graduating from Oxford University, Sir Tim Berners-Lee became a software engineer at CERN, the large particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. Scientists, from all over the world came to use it's accelerators, but Sir Tim noticed that they were having difficulty sharing information(“History of the Web” 4). Millions of computers were being connected together through the fast-developing Internet and Berners-Lee realized they could share information by exploiting an emerging technology called hypertext(“History of the web” 6). By 1990, the first Web page was served on the open internet, and in 1991, people outside of CERN were invited to join this new Web community(¨History of the Web¨ 7). Tim realized that its true potential would only be unleashed if anyone, anywhere could use it without paying a fee or having to ask for permission, So, Tim and others advocated to ensure that CERN would agree to make the underlying code available on a royalty-free basis, forever(“History of the Web” 10). The World Wide Web has really changed our life today, all of our phones, computers, games, and several others that we use every second of our lives wouldn’t have been possible without it.
In conclusion, all of these facts show how the impact of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, one of the most devastating terrorist attack on the U.S, the invention of Google, something we
