World Religion
Religion is a hard word to define. Some might define religion as believing in a high power, deities, or a single God. Others define it as a belief system that has more to do with culture and traditions being past down from generation to generation than anything. According to Ask.com (n.d.), religion is define as the belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. No one knows what the first religion was or when it was founded, but today there are countless religions that people are associate with. The top five religions of the world today are Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hindu. Over 33% of the world population consider themselves Christians, 21% Islam, Hindu is 14%, Buddhism 6% and Judaism 0.22% (Adherents.com, 2007). The word Islam means “peace and to be in submission to God”. Islam is a religion that I have always had interested in, but have never done thorough research on until now. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, and the second largest religion behind Christianity. Of the five major religions that are practiced today, Islam is the youngest one and did not come into existence until 622 CE. The founder of was a man name Muhammad who was born in Mecca which is located in Saudi Arabia. His name means the “The Praised One” (Encyclopedia Britannica Online, 2007). Mohammad’s father died before he was born, and his mother died when he was six years old. At the age of 25 he married a name Khadijah who was 15 years older then him. At the age of 40 years old, he claimed and tells a story of how he received a revelation from Allah (God). He says that Gabriel an Angel of Allah appeared to him one day while he was in a cave meditating and praying. The reason that Allah revealed this message to him was because Allah wanted him to re-establish the current religion that man had distorted by making changes to it (Encyclopedia Britannica Online, 2007). I had a privilege to

The name Islam literally means “surrender,” or “Submission.” The idea behind this name is the complete surrender or submission to God (Allah). The word Muslim means one who surrenders to Allah. The words Islam and Muslim are closely related to the word “peace.” The words of Islam and Muslim propose the inner tranquility that is achieved with the surrendering to the divine. Islam teaches that all religions originally had the same essential message - which was to submit whole-heartedly to the will of God and to worship Him and Him alone. For this reason, Islam is not a new religion but is the same divinely revealed Ultimate Truth that God revealed to all prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The word "Islam" means peace and submission. Peace means to be at peace with you and your surroundings and submission means submission to the will of God. A broader meaning of the word "Islam" is to achieve peace by submitting to the will of God.…

Juche is a Communist led and sponsored religion in North Korea made up of a mixture of ideology, philosophy, and religion for over 22,000,000 people, most of which are North Koreans, as stated by John Chin of the Religion-Info website (Chin). Juche is practiced, mandatorily, in North Korea by their government leader Kim Jong-Il, and is more of a social ideology instead of an actual religion. Although, the only way this ideology is promoted as a religion is by the way that Juche adopted some of the Confucius ideas. John Chin also states the ideas of Juche following only one “Great Leader”, and secondly that the Korean Worker's Party revolution belongs to the people (Chin). Then later the idea of self-reliance or self-sufficiency as a country was added to Juche which the word itself by Korean language means “self-reliance” (Adherents.com). Also, Jürgen Kleiner states that Kim Il-Sung created this ideology to save him from political and social obstacles of the day. So, really this religion in my opinion is not a true religion, but actually a social ideology; as a matter of fact, if Juche were really a religion then it would be a choice to adhere to not forced like it is in North Korea.…

Islam is the religion of the Muslim people. This faith is based on the book of the Koran, revelations from the Prophet Muhammad. Islam originated from the Arabic word aslama, which is submission ("The definition of Islam," 2013). Therefore, Islam refers to the submission to the will of God, better known as Allah to the Muslim people. The teachings of Islam come not only from the book of Koran, but portions of the Holy Bible influenced the development of the religion. Today, the Islam faith continues to disagree with the scriptures found in the Holy Bible and has brought much confusion and animosity amongst Americans. This religion is one of the fastest growing in the world. The ignorance that most Americans perceive this religion to encompass must be better…

    The World Religion

All around the world, religion is a dominant idea for many cultures; exemplifying a certain way of life, serving as a basis for faith, and bringing charity to the world, religion is an extensive concept. For several cultures and countries religion may vary according to demographics, socio-economical class, and ethnicity. Many people seek religion as a way of life, for others religion simply means going to church or temple and seeing religious festivals. One religion is Christianity. Christianity is basically an historical religion. It is founded not on abstract principles but on concrete events, actual historical happenings. When Huston Smith stated that: “Jesus’ life is so meager that many investigators believe he had never lived”, this is really not that smart to say as investigators because if Jesus had never lived than why were many people after him and symbolized him as the son of god, and as part of the holy spirit, if he had never existed why are so many individuals drawn to him in every religion such has Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The biographical details of Jesus’ life are very minimal. Huston Smith summarizes that he was a charismatic wonder-worker who stood in a tradition that stretched back to the beginning of Hebrew history. The prophets and seers who comprised that tradition mediated between the everyday world. "The spirit of the lord is upon me" Jesus opened his ministry by quoting this statement from Isaiah and adding, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled." We must attend to this Spirit that Jesus experienced as empowering him, for there can be no understanding of his life and work if it is omitted. I cannot really relate to this quote because in my religion we do not believe in the Holy Spirit. If Christianity thinks that lord is a spirit then are the Christians trying to say that their lord is a person? This is a question in which I cannot answer but inshAllah (Allah SWT willing), I…
