world history
World history, global history or transnational history (not to be confused with diplomatic or international history) is a field of historical study that emerged as a distinct academic field in the 1980s. It examines history from a global perspective. It is not to be confused with comparative history, which, like world history, deals with the history of multiple cultures and nations, but does not do so on a global scale.
World History looks for common patterns that emerge across all cultures. World historians use a thematic approach, with two major focal points: integration (how processes of world history have drawn people of the world together) and difference (how patterns of world history reveal the diversity of the human experience).
History (from Greek ἱστορία - historia, meaning "inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation"
It is the study of the past, specifically how it relates to humans. It is an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the discovery, collection, organization, and presentation of information about these events. The term includes cosmic, geologic, and organic history, but is often generically implied to mean human history. Scholars who write about history are called historians. Events occurring prior to written record are considered prehistory.
History can also refer to the academic discipline which uses a narrative to examine and analyse a sequence of past events, and objectively determine the patterns of cause and effect that determine them. Historians sometimes debate the nature of history and its usefulness by discussing the study of the discipline as an end in itself and as a way of providing "perspective" on the problems of the

However, historians haven’t always been so good at putting their own discipline in context. Oddly enough, this applies even to world history. One of the virtues of world history is that it can help us see more specialized historical scholarship in its global context. But what is the context of world history itself? This is a question that has not been sufficiently explored by world historians. 2 Yet it should be, for all the reasons that historians…

Many students today propose the question, "why do we study history, what does it have to do with us?" This question is not a new idea; in fact, the Greeks didn't concern themselves with true scientific history until after 500 B.C. Up until this point the Greeks focused mainly on myths and legends that explained how to please their many gods. It wasn't until the time of Herodotus that any emphasis was placed on recording a true account of the past. In Herodotus' writings The Histories, he tells us his reasons for recording this history:…

History is traditionally seen as the study of past events, which is recorded with facts, data and statistics. These recorded documents are everlasting pieces of the past. However, these documents on their own fail to present the intricate picture of the dreadful events that have occurred. The emotions and sorrows felt by the individuals are continually overlooked and sidestepped in these historical recordings due to their attempt to remain as unbiased as possible by maintaining an objective view. It is the memories of others that then add substance to the historical archives, which allows people to empathize and connect with those moments in time.…

Humans have roamed the world for thousands of years and their clamoring has yielded an endless storyline. The human storyline is like no other and the narrative is full of intriguing plots and unique characters. These extraordinary tales are not fiction, instead they are original historic events that represent the human race. History chronicles the past, so future generations can study and learn from it, and so it contributes to my philosophy which is “History chronicles the past in hopes of impacting the present and future”. This philosophy of history contains three key elements: an understanding of objectivity, a recognition of the need for a diversity of voices, and a recognition that history is a science.…

In essence, the study of history is the study of human cultures. Culture is the way of life that a society or group shares. It includes the way people act, the way they express themselves, and the way they are organized. Ways of living change as humans interact with each other. Belief systems and philosophies have greatly affected the people where they are practiced. They give guidelines on how to live their lives and affect every aspect of their cultures. Culture refers to the ways in which people express who they are. It includes religion and philosophy, art and literature, "high culture" and "low culture." The culture of each time and place is unique; however, behind each culture is the same set of issues, such as "What is the meaning of…

    The Importance of History

History is an important part of anyone’s life. History helps understand the past so the people of the country can understand where they come from. The subject helps children understand who they are and where they came from. History is basically knowledge about the past events. It is a part of everyday life that goes partially un-noticed. Everybody, people talk about past events without even knowing that they are performing the task. One needs to know and understand the past at doctor’s offices and solving arguments between children. I would have to know my past and my family past in order to fill out the information at my doctors. This is the way the doctor can know what to expect from my health issues. I could use history to find out the solution and the start of the problem of sibling arguments. If my two children got in a fight and one of them told me one thing and the other told me another, I would be able to tell from their history on how the fight actually went. History helps the people of today realize why their country enters wars, where their beliefs come from, and understand their culture of their country. According to the author of “Importance of History,” David Crabtree, the definition of history is that it is a story about the past that is significant and true. This simple definition contains two words that are packed with meaning which must be understood in order to understand history, which are significance and truth. Significance is determined by the historian. The historian sorts through the evidence and presents only that which, given his particular world view, is significant. No one could record everything that is true about an event in the past. Everything can be entered in history because every factor can be used in studies, teachings, and certain other possibilities. Most historians use the word “true” to mean any perspective well supported by facts. Several people can have different perspectives…
