SUBURBANISATION MEDC Ballawattleworth estate Peel (Isle of Man)
Population increase of 11% indicated in census from 3785 in 2001 to 4280 in 2006.
Major impacts on the local primary (Peel Cloth workers) and secondary (Queen Elizabeth II High).
Increasing class sizes due to increase in pupils, and temporary accommodation before more permanent provision in place. With the secondary school building new dining areas and a sixth form centre.
Increased demand for improved leisure amenities. Led to Western Swimming pool adjacent to estate.
Estate has generated its own provision. (Busy Bears Nursery and highwayman pub)
These facilities can be utilised by original residents of town as well as others.
Much needed housing for first time buyers, as there is a mix of apartments, two bedroom semi detached and executive style homes.

COUNTER-URBANISATION MEDC Crosby (Isle of Man)
The Village 6km from islands capital Douglas is changing, increasing infill development along main A1 route between Douglas and Peel.
Local builders have seized opportunity to build on unused plots in what has become a desirable location.
Newcomers want modern facilities adding conservatories, garages etc.
Like perceived rural image of village life, but sanitised with modern facilities.
Eyerton farm conversion, still look like picturesque barns, but triple glazed and grounds around them landscaped.
Village pub The Crosby undergone renovation and extension, refurbished play park.
Argued that these services are necessary to cater to needs of the expanding villages and more sophisticated demands for new comers.

RE-URBANISATION MEDC Notting Hill (London W11)
During Victorian times Notting hill was a tough working class area.
1950s area synonymous with slum landlords and inner city deprivation.
1958 scenes of riots between African Caribbean and local Teddy boys.
