Workplace discrimination occurs in many forms from age, sex, race, religion, national origin, and disability all in which can create huge legal and economic consequence for a company. Discrimination on these grounds is illegal under various laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). For example hiring, leave policy, performance evaluation, and promotion. It's important for administrators to identify different types of discrimination and defend against them in the place of work. (UOP Simulations: Preventing Workplace Discrimination 2011). This simulation illustrates workplace discrimination as it relates to, hiring, work environment quarrel, performances and appraisals evaluations in an advertising company. Each is analyzed carefully by the Human Resource Manager (HRM) to decide how to prevent discrimination through resolving differences amongst employees budding from discrimination. Measures that a company such as the advertising company can take to reasonably accommodate people with disabilities or those with a known drug abuse problem are shown in the simulation. To accommodate people with a known drug abuse problem, a company must have a policy in place that proclaims pre-employment and post-employment alcohol and drug screening, in addition to enforcing a drug free workplace. Employee’s whom have a drug abuse problem may be in breach of company policy. In the simulation, an employee was terminated with no written or verbal warning nor was there any remediation suggested in the situation. One technique that the company could go with as a form of remediation is to re-hire the employee after successfully completion of a rehabilitation program. With an employee who has an alcohol abuse concern, the company can provide resources such as internal or external counseling, and treatment.
