The most challenging part of working with FBSS will be trying to get the parents who are angry to calm down. There is an art to dealing with various personalities and cultures. Because I took psychology in both my graduate and my undergraduate studies, I have gained the tools to effectively understand people. I chose to go to large universities so I could become more culturally diverse in my thinking. I chose to work at HHSC for two years and eight months because I like to help people. I have worked for two different school districts because I love working with children of all ages. As a substitute

I realize that IB will one of the most challenging courses I will take before I enter college and I am not even in the program yet. It is a culture in itself. However, I am also a part of the music culture at EWHS where I am included in the Symphonic Band , as well as the Mello- Aires and because both groups require the majority of my time, I am well versed in each culture’s rules and values. Both the IB program and the music program have similar standards, values, and traits to live up to, but on the other hand, both cultures have an incredible impact on my daily life and how I go about it.…

With saying that, I want to become a licensed Social Worker in the state of Arkansas, and Texas later in life. My desire is to work strictly within the foster care system. I want to learn the art of Social Work, the “ins and outs” and the “dos and don’ts”. I then want to matriculate to then supervise the Social Workers. The reason I have chosen to work in that manner, is because I want to learn how other Social Workers think and act. I have heard many horrendous stories of how group home leaders work and mistreat the foster children. My desire is to then train the Social Workers under me to take a different approach to the children. I believe that ALL children should have the same opportunity at life, regardless if they live at home with both parents, only one parent, foster parent, or in a group home. Children should have equal opportunity. I want to train these Social Workers to have a tender side along with their disciplinary side. I do believe that when a child does wrong he or she should be punished accordingly, but not going so far as having food withheld from them. There has to be a method to raising these children just like there was a method in your upbringing.…

The skills I had developed up until this point further evolved in the AP (Advanced Placement) English class I attended during my senior year. AP English was the most challenging literature class I took during my time in high school; it was also the most enjoyable and rewarding. We read literary works such as “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver; “The Invisible Man” by Ralph Waldo Emerson; “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley; “The Things They Carried” by ???; and “A Doll’s House” by Henrik Ibsen. Although the reading load was rather intense, I especially enjoyed applying the critical analysis skills I had developed up to this point to these novels. It is difficult to establish which book was my favorite to read and interpret; I found each to be eloquently written and representative of realistic life situations, both contemporary and historical.…

I enjoy working with other people and started volunteering since elementary school. I played piano at local nursing homes and loved seeing the smiling faces of the seniors. In high school, I volunteered for fundraisers at the nursing home, assisted at the Susan Komen Race for the Cure, and other events to help those in need. The opportunities helped me understand and enrich my experience by working with different people. As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…
