Working On The Prowler Analysis
Emma Lynne Rosser wasn’t always the shy type of girl, she’s confident since taking journalism and when it comes to communicating with other people. Rosser, a 19-year-old graduate of Central York High School says Central helped her along her college journey, the teachers at Central really cared for her and help her grow as a student and a person. To add-on to that, the amount of writing and the opportunities, has helped her as well. Working on the Prowler was her life in high school, as a whole, it's something she'll never forget. A couple of years ago, she couldn't see herself as of now; Rosser was too shy to take opportunities, she now socializes better. The senior paper “that was my baby,” Rosser said, even though it was a lot of work. Her time was spent working day in and day out writing “it has pretty much become home,” Rosser said. Rosser advice to seniors is to make time for themselves. …show more content…
The first year she was completely out of her shell, now she is open to trying new things. Her advice for new journalists, is “don't be afraid of edits, they will help you grow.” The dramatic thing that has happened in her journalist's experience is that people who can't be in the same room together makes it hard to write a paper. The biggest challenges for her, being an editor in chief was picking editors for next year, editors didn't get pages for their edits, some people plagiarized their story and editors did not finish their story, to add-on “you have to trust editors to get their work done,” Rosser

In her article, “Shitty First Drafts”, Anne Lamott writes about how having “shitty first drafts” is one of the key components of the writing process. She believes that writing a “shitty” first draft will lead to writers writing “good second drafts” and “terrific third drafts.” Lamott illustrates through her experiences as a food critic that writing does not always come easily. In order for there to be a “terrific” final piece of work, the writer needs to first allow for the words and thoughts to come flowing out without restriction. Lamott explains that she would go to the restaurant to review them numerous amounts of times with her friends. She would then write down her friends’ opinionated words about the restaurant. Here she was writing…

In “Shitty First Drafts,” a selection from Bird by Bird (1994), Anne Lamott claims that in order to write effectively it is necessary to just get a first draft written down, no matter how crappy it may be. She does this by disproving the assumption that great authors just sit down and magically spit out an amazing piece of work and by sharing her own experience writing awful first drafts. Ms. Lamott, an accomplished author, shared her experiences in order to demonstrate how all readers need to write that abhorrent first draft. She is writing to other, less-experienced writers to reassure them, and to help them become better writers.…

Joseph Harris’ essay “Revising” (2006 pg.452-69); serves as a guide in how to correctly revise any writing you have ever completed. Harris designates four points that must be taken under consideration while revising. Before getting to the core of his argument, Harris notes that revising is not the same as editing. The essay points out that students are trained too just polish and make their writing sleeker rather than making a difference or significant change to the original. From there Harris brings up his first point stating that the author must decide what exactly it is that they are trying to convey. Harris believes the problem stems from that fact that many writers focus too much on correcting mistakes without thinking of what it is they…

I have known Melissa Kline for four years, first as a student in my Freshman CP English class and currently in Senior AP English Language and Literature. A favorite memory is my first impression of her. In the midst of a freshman writing assignment, I noticed her consulting a meticulously handwritten notebook of grammar rules. She was using her notes from eighth grade! I remember thinking, Here is a student on whom nothing is wasted, and I was right. Today, Melissa continues to be an outstanding student, consistently organized and prepared. Her observations are well considered and insightful. When asked to work in a group, she assumes a leadership role. This commitment to excellence is reflected by her repeated inclusion on the honor roll,…
