This chapter
Background of the study
Romac Services & Trading Inc. is a company known for its long term existence in providing quality services to various firms nationwide. With its mission of aiming to render the best possible services to their customers and to be a major contributor to the success and development of not only their customers, but also to all employees and stakeholders of the business; the company has created a name in the industry and widely grew through its services; manpower provision, buildings and grounds cleaning and maintenance services, personnel recruitment and training services, temporary personnel provision, food/toll processing, product toll processing & packaging services, cold storage, warehousing & trucking and logistic support services to be exact.
The University of St. La Salle (USLS), as a large institution, requires manpower services to support its non-core activities. Serving the university for almost two years now, Romac workers are tasked to do the janitorial and skilled work around the campus. But the contract is only between the Romac management and USLS. The Romac janitorial workers have no direct participation in the terms of the contract except for their work alone.
The contract is between USLS and Romac management. Basically, institution pays the management and the latter pays the workers what is due to them. Since manpower is an essential factor in an organization, it is important to take into consideration their whole well-being. First, it is important that their workload is equally compensated. Second, it is essential for them to have a safe workplace wherein they can perform their job well.
