Work Environment Case Study

1. Introduction:

I am going to write an essay in which I am going to look at a real life case study where the needs in my work environment and the community will be shown. I am going to design two interventions where some of the needs will be discussed. I am also going to define the goals and desired outcomes.

2. Case Study:
Certan needs in a school’s work environment and community

In my work environment, there are a lot of needs that can create big problems at school, I work at a school in Kroonstad that is located in the Free State. The school is an English medium school. There are a lot of needs in Kroon Primary that I am going to identify. The population in the school is only children of colour, but the teachers are mostly White
Most of the time the children do not go home and do their homework because the parents are not there to help them, and to check if they did their homework. This is also a cause for the fact that the children are not motivated at all. They come to school without caring for their school work.

To add to the previous paragraph, the children know that their parents do not have the time to come to school and see them if they messed up so they do what they want in the classroom. The children do not listen to the teachers and sometimes they do not want to work. This is a cause of discipline problems in the school.

The students in the classroom are too many for the teacher to be able to help every student in a period. The period is too short for the teacher to give their attention to every child in the classroom. The student teacher ratio in South Africa is currently exceeding 30 pupils for every teacher (Writer, 2016).

The biggest problem that I would say that the school have in the teachers work environment is the fact that teachers do not have enough time to teach the children the way they should. The CAPS have too much work for a term and the teachers need to hurry through the work to be able to be done by the time that the children have to write
All the work that they have to do like admin and marking books need to be done in school hours. This will only be possible if they have someone to help them.

3.3. Parental involvement:

Furthermore I also mentioned in the case study about parental involvement. Parental involvement is the last problem that I am going to look at. Parental involvement is a very important part in schools. The role that a parent or a guardian plays in supporting the learner and assisting where necessary can make or break a child’s school career (Khosa, 2013:79). When a parent is involved in their children’s schooling it ensures continuity between home and school. It is also a way of ensuring that parents can interpret the world of their children and keep up with the developments in education (Khosa, 2013:79).

Research shows that when parents are involved in their children’s education the children’s performance will improve (Khosa, 2013:79). Studies have also shown that parental involvement in schooling leads to a learners improved achievements (Khosa,
