Task
Write a 1,500 word report which analyses the premises in which you completed your WBL experience. The content of the report should:
Provide an overview of the operation and your role within it (including a brief assessment of the market in which it operates).
Discuss the effectiveness of the menu as a marketing tool in your WBL setting with reference to the strengths and weaknesses of the menu design. (Ensure that you offer a critique of menu formats and styles in general first of all).

Work-based learning experience analysis

1. Introduction
This report will evaluate my recent work- based experience in the food and beverage sector. The report will also overview my job and the responsibilities I had during my placement. The menu and its design will be analyzed using the theory and the experience at the restaurant. It will give further ideas of improvement of the content and design of the menu. Then the service quality will be analyzed including the customer’s expectations. The report will evaluate the skills that are needed in the restaurant operations, discussing the different types of skills and their importance. Finally two critical incidents during my work experience will be presented and a solution will be given for each of them.
2. Analysis
2.1 Role and responsibilities
I worked a few shifts at the famous restaurant in Duke of Cornwall Hotel. The hotel is recognized with its events such as weddings, birthdays etc. It is a fine – dining/ casual restaurant offering both à la carte and table d’hôte menus. The establishment also offers silver service, typical for fine-dining operation, which is famous technique used mainly in England, consisting of special way of serving the customers. For the couple of shifts I have worked there I had the chance to work in different atmosphere each night, as the restaurant had various events each night.
