Wonder Maggie Character Analysis
Auggie has lived his whole life being stared at and given weird looks, so much so he just has to pretend he doesn’t see all the faces people make when they see him and his distorted face, but now he has had to endure those kinds of looks everyday from his classmates in his first ever year at school in 5th grade. However, despite all the looks, bullying, and exclusion, school was still undoubtedly the most amazing experience Auggie has ever had in his life. After reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio I believe that Auggie going to Beecher prep not only had a positive impact on his life, but also for all of his fellow classmates and teachers Auggie’s heart has touched. Auggie may have had some of the worst days of his life at Beecher prep, but …show more content…
One of Auggie’s worst experiences was because of Julian, the school bully, This is shown on page 29 when Julian says “What’s the deal with your face? I mean, were you in a fire or something?” Julian even started a whole war in the entire 5th grade and tried pitting everyone against Jack and Auggie. Ironically, by the end of the year Julian is actually the weird one that is left out one because he didn't go to the nature retreat like everyone else. So in the end of the year, even though he may have had some enemies, in the end he was able to gain so many more friends. On page 282 Auggie explains how everything has changed ever since the fight, “I got picked on because of my face and Jack defended me, those guys- Amos, Henry, and Miles-protected me. And now that they’d protected me, I was different to them, it was like I was one of them.” Auggie was even able to see the good that came out of that terrible fight. Auggie has been through some pretty tough things, but he is still able to look at the positive side of things and see all the good that has come out of the

Lena Lingard intrigues me. She’s gentle even though she’s lived on the farm her entire life and she manages to make the littlest things exciting with her charisma. In ways, her adventurousness and excitement make her similar to Tony. However, they differ in that Ántonia possesses a quiet beauty and inner strength that contrasts with Lena’s liveliness. It’s strange-- I dream the same dream “a great many times, and it [is] always the same. I [am] in a harvest-field full of shocks, and I [am] lying against one of them. Lena Lingard [comes] across the stubble barefoot, in a short skirt, with a curved reaping-hook in her hand, and she [is] flushed like the dawn, with a kind of luminous rosiness all about her. She [sits] down beside me, [turns] to me with a soft sigh and said, ‘Now they are all gone, and I can kiss you as much as I like.’ I...wish I could have this flattering dream about Ántonia, but I never [do].” (109) I love Ántonia and her steady independence but I cannot see her in my dreams in…

The author makes it so that Auggie is telling you what happened to him and why his face is the way it is. She makes it so it’s a mystery she never describes what his face actually look like but it does say “I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking it’s probably worse.” The main conflict in the book is that Auggie’s face looks different than all the other kids and the other kids don’t know how to handle it. Auggie has a hard time finding friends because they all make weird faces whenever they see him. The author makes it so that it seems like we are living in his life and it makes the reader feel like we are…

Marilynne Robinson has written “the most complex thing we know of [is] the mind brain.” An important theme in Lila is that every human being is completely unique and complicated. Lila demonstrated that she is unique and complicated. She is very straightforward. Lila met Reverend Ames in front of the church after shopping. She told him that she did not plan on getting baptized and acted as if she is ignorant. Reverend Ames accepted her decision, but still gave the suggestion of baptism. He saw that Lila decorated his late wife’s grave with roses and wanted to repay her. But somehow, Lila said, “You ought to marry me” (Robinson 80). Then she wondered why she blurted out those words. In the next encounter with Reverend Ames, Lila said, “I want…

The few times where the author gives the reader glimpses into Julian’s home-life or backstory, the opinions of his parents demonstrate where Julian gets his attitude. Jack tells his mom that Julian’s mom actually photoshopped August’s face out of the class picture and gave out copies (158). This action mirrors the disgust for August Julian expresses. Some of the other kids’ parents who are more accepting provide a sharp contrast to Julian’s mom. For example, Charlotte says “Just so you know, my mom thinks Julian’s mom is a total idiot. She said she thinks people like her are more concerned about what their kids’ class pictures look like than doing the right thing” (172). In the end, his ignorant parents could not accept the changes happening in the school and decide to transfer Julian out…

Nonetheless, having the same DNA does not at all make you the same. This is displayed in the story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker. It is human nature for people to look for acceptance in society. Without acceptance, people can feel like rejects, outcasts, or failures. Percy is a kid who is branded a “loser” at school. He is picked on, he is not academically intellectual. Percy has Dyslexia along with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder also known as ADHD. For anyone with those types of learning disorders, it can be difficult to socialize and to interact with other people. Riordan adds,“ Just when [he] started to feel accepted, to feel [he] had a home in cabin eleven and [he] might be a normal kid—or as normal as you can be when you’re a half-blood—[he’d] been separated out as if [he] had some rare disease , a person’s fate is unavoidable” (127). In this example, Percy deals with rejection because he does not fully understand his disabilities and why he needs to be moved to another cabin. Soon he learns that he has these disabilities for a reason, these disabilities eventually help him to succeed. Riordan acknowledges, “[Percy] finally found a family, people who cared about [him] and thought [he] had done something right”(359). It can be difficult for young people to recognize their strengths at such a young age because it takes time and direction for them to…

Airing in December of 1989, the Simpsons are starting their 25th season as of this year. This longevity has been thanks to the five main characters; Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson. Representing the all-American household; each of these characters plays an important part in not just Springfield, but society all around. But the most humanistic and “normal” person living in Springfield is no other than Lisa Marie Simpson. Lisa is a tough nut to crack, but just like any other young girls out there, she has fallen in and out of love, faced defeat and tasted victory. She is an overachiever, a feminist, an activist, the “voice of reason” in a town full of “Homer’s,” and a youth with more common sense than most of the adults.…

While reading Wonder I found it hard to understand why Auggie’s parents would send him to a public school ,where he would face such ridicule. What did his older sister Via think? The book Wonder was written by R.J Palacio. He was hoping in teaching people especially children not to judge people on the way you look. You should base them on their personality. Mr.Palacio ,I am writing to you to see if you could answer some of my suspicions about Wonder. Did you think the school was a good setting and surrounding for Auggie? The book Wonder changed me because it made me think of words toward other people. This is because I realized how much words can really affect someone. Some quotes in the story that changed me I will list now. ”One of the things I miss most about Via’s friendship is her family. ”Another quote is "Say goodbye to Daisy kids, tears streaming down her face. ”The last quote is “I can’t believe you’ve grownup this year Auggie.”…
