Women have the same rights as men do. In the early 20th century women fought for the Nineteenth Amendment which allowed women to vote. This is a reason why they should enlist because they should have to stand by our country when we are in need. Since they have the right to vote they should have to stand up for that freedom if the country needs them. The constitution states that men are required to sign up for selective service. The reason it only list that men have to is because women did not have equal right at the time. However, now that women do they should also be required to sign up.
As of January 24, 2013, women are able to actively participate in the U.S. military. With this in mind, over 224,000 women are currently listed in active duty, which makes up over 14.2 percent of the military. According to debate.org 72 percent of people think it is not fair that only men have to register. thehill.com took a survey and found that over 59 percent of people believe that women should be able to be sign up for the selective service. Although a draft will most likely not be performed anytime soon, women signing up for it would be a good way to show equality among the sexes.
The main reason that women were not allowed to sign up for the selective service is that women were not serving in combat. Now that this has been changed, it is no longer a valid reason for preventing women to sign up.
