What is respect? Respect is where you feel a strong way towards someone or something. To show respect one must show admiration, or show they care. But, today, respect is something a lot of individuals don’t know anything about. Females are always referred to as “bitches” and “hos” by males. They are called various of disrespectful names. Women and even young girls are always a target when it comes to disrespect. If someone is a woman living in today’s world odds are they’ve been disrespected or they’ve experienced a situation where they were treated differently because they are a female. Not only are middle aged women disrespected but so are younger girls and kids. The media that takes place in today’s generation, for the most part, always targets women. According to Jean Kilbourne Prada, which is a fashion brand, has more than 1 page of a young girl only wearing underwear (Kilbourne, 505). The young girl is pictured nearly naked. Fashion is a big influence on today’s society. They play a big role on influencing others what to wear and like. It’s sick to see that such a big name like Prada would even dare to put a young girl in their magazine in just plain underwear. It’s disturbing and disrespectful. The world should be showing, especially young girls, to respect themselves and value who they are. Calvin Klein also had a similar ad in a billboard (Kilbourne, 507). Big companies like Calvin Klein and Prada should be showing women and children to respect one another, not exposing them half naked on a billboard in Times Square. It’s not okay that women are fine with being disrespected. Instead of a female being naked on the cover, why can’t it be a male? The world hardly ever sees a man half naked on a billboard.
