Women Abuse Screening Tool
In working with this client group I believe there are a few tools to use in order to asses and engage the client. A few tools that can be used with this client group are the danger assessment, spousal assault risk assessment (SARA), and the Women Abuse Screening Tool Short. As discussed in class, one of the primary things to take note of is if there is a presence of power and control within the relationship.
The danger assessment predicts lethality and asks victims to go back to the last year of their life in regards to any abuse. The purpose of this tool is to educate the women of the risks that may cause a negative outcome and also create a safety plan with the information provided by the assessment. The danger assessment is the most commonly used and can be used by law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and advocates. I feel like this would be one of

It is used to assess the risk factors and rate them in low, moderate, or high. This tool can also be used for interviews with the victims in gathering the information needed. This can be a best tool because it is measuring the risk factors and looks at the helper is able to identify the highest one. With that information, the helper is able to safety plan with the victim around that risk factor.
The Women Abuse Screening Tool Short is another assessment tool that can be used with this client group. This tool was originally used in a study to evaluate a woman’s abuse. The results from that study proved that this tool was reliable and valid. This tool can be used as a base to further explore the abuse. I feel like this tool would work well with this client group because it is a set of about eight questions, it is not long and overwhelming and does not ask for any specifics. Sometimes when a woman first comes in seeking help they have a hard time giving details so I feel like this would be a good

The most difficult client for me to work with would have to be a client who is in a demostic violence relationship but is unwilling to leave the relationship due to religious or moral teachings. I chose this statement because in today's society domestic viloence is occuring, in relationships and marriages. It would be hard for me because, I know for myself that it would make me angry right away. Only because individuals let there significant other beat on them, call them names, and what ever else and it's evident that you do not have to live with. That person surely deserves better. Although religion and moral teachings is a huge part of why that person won't leave. But I'll say this, either you leave or you're probably going to be beat to death. Leave and make a statement, let him/her know that if they keep beating on you, you won't be around. Let them suffer without you, because just as much as he/she is beating on you, leaving them would hurt even worse. As for those children who have been in domestic viloence, I know it's harder to take them away from the scene. But it is important for the child to seek help too. Physical violence off all one of the worse things, because it could cause physical and mental problems, arthritis, hypertension, heart disease (long-term DV), loosing jobs due to absenteesim due to results of physical beating, loosing family and friends, embarrassment, abandonment, the list goes on. As for children who witness or are involved in DV demonstrate behavioral/emotional problems, stuttering, anxiety, fears, sleep disruption, excessive crying and school problems. No one should have to through this type of treatment. We weren't put on earth to be beat to death. I would ask this client, what's more important, your health and well-being or sleeping with the…

In scenario one the prevention level being used is the Primary level of prevention. The reason I believe that this method is being used because the services offered through the agency are ones to prevent the abused women from being depressed and leading to other psychological disorders. In this particular scenario I wouldn’t do anything different, I think that the agency has a good plan in effect for dealing with potential hostile or violent situations. Instead of confronting the husband trying to talk rationally with him and defuse the situation while alarming the authorities is the best route for dealing with a person like that. In the case of the wife the programs offered through the agency promote self-worth and help prevent her from feeling bad about herself. Learning new job skills and healthy ways of thinking about oneself should prepare her for an independent lifestyle to provide for her and her children.…

The technique of listening. Sometimes a family just needs someone to listen to their point of view and their concerns. This technique applies greatly to a hostile, resistant or non-voluntary client. I have also learned in my experience that a lot of times, people have an incorrect understanding of what child protective services assist with, and a simple explanation of the agency and the expectations, helps to relieve a resistant client. As far as hostile clients, I have learned that listening as well as letting them know that they still have control of their situation and that I am not there to just point a finger at them, as assisted greatly in changing their attitude. I always tell my clients that they are not bad parents, they just made bad choices, which can be…

Risk assessments are an important factor in safeguarding children and in my day to day work, before I carry out any activity with children and young people I am required through my setting policies and procedures to carry out a risk assessment first to make sure all involved is safe, for example, if I were to plan an activity, such as an art and craft activity I would need to risk assess the potential danger of scissors, small objects, i.e beads and amend my plan accordingly to suit each individual.…

Risk management, quality, performance improvement and patient safety use the SALT for data collection. The SALT is not part of the medical record but is part of data collection process. CareConnect has some safety implementation built into patient assessments; an example would include the fall risk scale. Patients are screened for a falls at the time of admission, during each shift, with any acute change in condition, and at discharge. If it is determined the patient is a high fall risk, the nurse is then prompted to implement fall risk interventions, which sets the stage for ongoing risk assessment. The process of completing an incidence report is recorded when a fall or near miss event occurs by the person reporting using the SALT tool. Other data collected under the SALT system would include number of acquired nosocomial infections while hospitalized. By having this assessment tool complies the entered data from which some of the information must reported, thus, affecting reimbursement…

As a therapist the first intervention I would use is empowerment for my client and her domestic violence issues. I am an advocate of pointing out a client's strengths to help draw out the inner strength and resolve that exists within. Helping the client to become aware of her strength and ability to be a voice in her relationship can go along way is possbly helping the client to view herself…

If a client begins to make a disclosure of abuse it is important to ensure privacy and confidentiality. It is necessary to show that listening skills are employed and that I remain calm and receptive. I must listen without interruption and make it clear that I am taking their disclosure seriously. I must only ask questions of clarification if I am unclear as to what the vulnerable adult is saying. It is important that I acknowledge their courage in coming forward and tell them that they are not responsible for the abuse. I must let it be known to them what I will do to help them and where possible get their consent to inform my line manager. I must speak to my client in comfortable and quiet surroundings. I would ask my client to sit down where…

The involuntary client may be reluctant to provide any information at all during the initial assessment. Clients who are involuntary may present as pre-contemplators, and the worker may need to consider other methods of counselling or defusion.…
