Freedom, specially the freedom of the press is a very important matter for any nation. This is especially more so in the case of a developing nation like Bangladesh. In many situations freedom is a very hard-earned matter. It may be mentioned that Voltaire once wrote that I may not agree with your opinion but I am ready to sacrifice my life to protect your freedom of expression. The press freedom could be described as the right to publish newspapers, magazines, and other printed matter without governmental restriction and subject only to the laws of libel, obscenity, sedition, etc. It is said that the press is the forth pillar of the state, the other three been parliament, adminstation and judiciary. But it is apparent that the press sometimes the live blood of the whole scenario. A free and independent press can ensure to point out the excesses and any irregularities of the other three branches. Indeed a free press is a very powerful column of democracy. This could refer to the theory of some important personnel like Hobbes described in his theory, the freedom of press as a free man who will do things by his own strength. But according to Rousseau he stated, "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. Those who think themselves the masters of others are indeed greater slaves than they" (Walker 2012). He claimed that human beings are left for the necessity of cooperation. Human race is bound to adopt institutions of law. Man is prone to be in frequent competition with his fellow men while also
