Wnz Media Case Study
WNZ Media Corporation Case 1. Based on a careful reading of the case answer the following questions and then complete the table below. In the table below, list in column 1 the most important operational (transactional) activities (i.e. day-to-day work) at WNZ Media Corporation as it operates its business and competes in its markets. Then in column 2 describe the information required to enable or support each of those operations-level requirements.

a. Employing the MIS Integrative Framework (posted on blackboard for this Session Assignment), what is the primary business focus/driver of WNZ Media (i.e. operational excellence, customer intimacy, product/service innovation) and why did you make this choice?

The primary business focus/driver of WNZ Media is product/service innovation. The business of print/online media is cutthroat, and companies die every day. In this intense environment, it is evolve or die, so WNZ needs to be constantly on the cutting edge of news technology, social media, not to mention the actual events going on the world.

b. What would be the most important secondary driver/focus for WNZ?

The most important secondary driver/focus for WNZ would be customer intimacy because a good deal of their news material comes from customer submissions. If customers are not happy and do not submit material, or submit material that reflects negatively on WNZ, or do not subscribe and pay a fee to read in an enhanced format, then their entire business model would collapse and they would likely go out of business.

c. Complete the table below (note: provide at least 8 examples):

Key Operations-level (i.e. day-to-day) Business Activities/Transactions | Associated information Requirements | Collecting payment from advertisers | Name of advertiser, dates of contract, amount of money to collect, form of payment | Collecting payment from subscribers | Name of subscriber, dates of membership, cost of subscription, form

I would describe Mrs. Field's Cookies as more of an IT-enabled network consisting of tailored business processes because they have structured all their operations based on IT, that not only automated the routine elements of the activity, but also learned how to respond to exceptions. 2. What role does IT play in the Mrs. Fields’ organizational structure? The information collected is based on two roles: Control and Decision Making. With control the lots of data generated every moment are not lost, which leads to a better, fast and easily decision making process. 3. Applying the IT in the new bakery segment and find a way to use all the information they have available. They are good positioned considering that they already have a well-designed system, but they still have to collect more data about the new segment before working with it. 4. What advice would you have given Debbi and Randy Fields in 1988? First, they should collected data of the new bakery segment and then develop the company's system to work with the new segment.
