Everyone can relate to one of them and feels a bond with them and their struggles. We all face these struggles in our lives such as; not smart, no heart, scared, a feeling of power, and a feeling of being lost and insecure. With our own lives, we too have the same…

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has caused quite a stir of controversy since it was first published in 1900. Written by L. Frank Baum, it was initially thought of to be only a magical story for children; but as it was later examined, there seemed to be more behind the well thought out novel than meets the eye. On November 28th, 2015 I attended Ben Stevenson’s version of The Nutcracker which was being performed by the Houston Ballet at the Wortham Theater Center. The dance featured two separate acts and multitude of dances as well as a live orchestra. The Nutcracker demonstrated the Stevenson’s ability to deliver a cohesive performance whilst maintaining the illusion of fantasy using music composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky of the Romantic era, eloquent set design and usage of techniques such as lighting and special effects, as well as precise choreography and overall cohesiveness of the dance and the music.…

Ballet was established in the royal courts of Italy in the 15th century and later was standardized by the courts of Louis the XIV in France. Over the centuries it has evolved to be more structured and taken on new styles and forms. Although originally an exclusive dance form, more cultures and types of people now have the opportunity to succeed in the ballet world than they did in the past two centuries. From the courts to the theater, from Europe to America, ballet has undergone various transitions visible in its styles and costumes. Ballet has evolved into diverse styles and gives audiences an opportunity to have a variety of experiences. Even though ballet is still predominantly white, in recent years, incorporating diversity has emerged as a top priority for many companies and ballet patrons in America.…
