From this activity I have learn that just attending university and receiving grades is not all that is required to attaining a future with a pleasant job. Volunteering and work experience are also necessary, therefore, I would consider joining a volunteer or work opportunity while attending university. The next step I am going to take toward my preferred future is to obtain a job, I will do this by applying to jobs that require communicating with people, working with children or opportunity for networking. Another step that I can take is to volunteer at my old high school, I have already worked at an elementary school, and therefore it would be nice to see if I would have a similar or dissimilar experience at the high…
The years I spent in middle school and high school have opened my eyes to the field of Social Work. I volunteered whenever I got the chance. I was in Student Council and from that, I donated a lot of my time to help with that and other organizations. Throughout those years, I was rewarded my senior year with an award for the most community service hours. My father works for the Michigan State Police, and through him, I volunteered with a lot of organizations through NCRESA. Halloween Hallow, Santa’s story book, and Kids Day were all different events that I volunteered for an absolutely loved. Now, I am a junior and I have still kept busy with volunteering. My freshmen year, taking SW100, we were required to do 15 hours of community service. I volunteered my 15 hours at the Marquette Jacobetti Veterans Center. Volunteering there has very much impacted my life. Whenever I went to see the veterans I was so thankful to them. Listening to their stories has been one of my favorite volunteer memories. In fact, my older sister Jennifer and I are thinking about going and talking to the volunteer coordinator to see if we can come back and continue. Another activity is Northern’s Make a Difference Day which has always been a great experience. Seeing how grateful those who we raked yards for were was truly wonderful. I will continue with Make a Difference Day! My sophomore year, I signed up through NMU’s volunteer center…
Since eighth grade I have volunteered regularly at Prodisee Pantry, a local food bank that gives out boxes of food every week. Prodisee was the first place I volunteered on my venture. Then I started to serve at my old middle school on Tuesdays, usually in the science department where I could offer the most assistance. From there I began leading a small group for middle schoolers at one of my churches on Wednesday nights. However, that was the extent of my service for the first two months of the year, but soon I did something completely new to remind me of the purpose of the 365…
During my 10th grade year, me and my fellow classmates volunteered for Keep Gastonia Beautiful. I got the chance to volunteer at the Gastonia Farmers Market where I got to help package earthworm kits. I got the chance to go to different parks throughout Gastonia, picking up trash and spreading out mulch on the playground. Our school actually recieved an award from Keep Gastonia Beautiful.…
Growing up, I have always been dedicated to volunteering and community service. I was taught that giving back and being a blessing to others is one's sole purpose in this World.…
The extracurricular activity that had an influential impact on the plans for my future was the Future Farmers of America. While in this organization, I have received multiple experiences in operating in the greenhouse, commuting to a fish farm, memorizing facts about the organization. This organization started by giving me the opportunity to begin experiencing stuff outside of the normal classroom. This organization taught me to stand up for myself and it started teaching me that I can do anything I set my mind to, such as winning science fair to advance to the National Convention in Kentucky. In this organization that anything is possible if you put the effort into making it happen. I learned that the people help make the organization, but…
Volunteer work has also been an activity that I like to include in my life. I currently volunteer at Saint Francis House feeding the…
Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…
Volunteer organizations I have been a part of are the Night in the Country Volunteer parking. My duties involved taking a paint marker and tagging the cars with their campsite number so they knew where to park their trailers and or trucks. I also had to do my best to answer any questions that people had on where certain places were. The second organization I have participated in is the Vineyard Fellowship Night of Lights. This event took place on Halloween night so I had to dress up in a costume. I had to operate a game booth such as fishing for candy and musical chairs. Finally the last organization I was a part of was the Vineyard Fellowship Community Christmas Dinner. For this event I had to help set everything up and prepare the food the…
The most meaningful service activities that I have performed while at UTD would definitely be leading the volunteering team at Jonathan's Place, an emergency shelter for homeless kids. I had the honor to volunteer as a member of the Global Business Organization since August 2015, and took over the program in the Fall of 2016. During my visits at Jonathan's Place, I understood the value of education and love. The children that live at the shelter have gone through different types of domestic violence, and require a lot of attention and patience. Those small kids have thought me to appreciate my life in a way that I would have never been able to do by myself. I have been so move and change through these volunteering activities that I will continue…
Never would I have expected one of my first experiences in class at Miami Dade College to have excited me as much as this class has so far. One of the reasons I feel so ecstatic to begin this class is the loving vibe that the class throws off. This class isn’t just a class you go to, do your work, and go about your day outside of the class walls, it is a class that is intentional. You cannot leave this class without it impacting your life in some beautiful way. This class excites me because we will be participating in the WOW Center. Contrary to usual class regimen, I will be teaching others, while teaching myself. This class is here to expand our minds, and not just to assign busy work. Through serving at the WOW Center, we will be learning…
I was a volunteer for the YMCA at Underwood Elementary School. Here, I tutored students in a variety of subjects at an after school program, Y Learning. My role was to assist students to reach school-system benchmarks and to develop their confidence inside and outside of the classroom. I collaborated and communicated with both staff and students to achieve our goals. Through talking with students, I was able to learn how to best give them individualized assistance in order for them to…
My school always required volunteer hours in the community; that’s how I originally began working with Emergency Infant Services. I joined their Junior Board of Directors after two years of volunteering. I worked in a group setting to create and promote a benefit concert for a local charity three times over my years there. I did everything from marketing to stage management as chairman of the Entertainment Committee. While I had to work with other people and help coordinate the acts onstage and the activities at the event. During the event, I had to manage time and problem solve when acts did not show up on time and move things around so the show would run smoothly. We surpassed our goal and raised over $40,000 to help families in need with…
Currently, I volunteer at the middle school that I attended which is called Chinook middle school. I used to volunteer to help students with homework after school during my high school years and after I graduated I did not want to stop. The students that I help are mainly new students who are new to the country. I help them…
Serving Sheboygan has always been one of my priorities. Although I have a seemingly short list of community service activities, my extracurricular activities have truly tied me closer to our community. To begin, I have long demonstrated the Lions philosophy of WE SERVE. Extracurricular involvement has historically ignited my service. As an energetic young student I participated greatly in student council, LUCK (Choir) and girl scouts; operating car washes, salvation army bell ringing, bingo and caroling at nursing homes.…
