Bill Gates Bill (William) Henry Gates is the founder and CEO of the multibillion corporation: Microsoft. Microsoft is considered to be the world leader in software development ranging from their famous operating system Windows to Microsoft Office, a series of applications dealing with data management and processing. Microsoft also produces the X-Box line of entertainment councils. Gates was born October 28, 1955 in Seattle. His father was an attorney and his mother was a schoolteacher and chairman of United Way international. He had two sisters. While attending a public school, he became fascinated with computers and began programming at the age of 13. The Mother’s club in his school had rented a computer for the use of the students. Gates became interested in computing and skipped math class to go on the computer. His first program was virtual tick-tack-toe, where the user played against the computer. Gates enjoyed hacking the computer to give him more computer time and changing the code of the program that made class lists so that he was with mainly female students. WRITTEN BY TARAS KOLOMATSKI Gates scored 1590 out of 1600 on the Scholastic Aptitude Test and enrolled into Harvard University in 1973. There he produced an upgrade to the programming language BASIC. The following year a company incorporated his upgrade of BASIC: MITS Altair 8800. After seeing the success of this product, Gates decided that he should drop out to work on micro-soft, a company he started with his childhood friend: Paul Allen. At first in 1975 Microsoft worked with MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems). However, in 1976, Microsoft registered with the USPTO and became a trademark organisation.
