After the bill passed in 1833 people got even more driven to abolish slavery not only in the British colonies, but everywhere that had slavery. From 1834-1835 both New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania experienced riots against African American and anti-slavery advocates. After these riots anti-abolition riots started to break out in major cities all across the Northeast. Many of the northerners thought that immediate abolition would threaten the economy and culture of the U.S. Anti-abolitionist sentiment in many northern cities. In 1839 the african aboard the Spanish slave ship known as Amistad committed mutiny. The african showing resistance detoured the ship from its destination in the Caribbean and landed it off the coast of Long Island, New York. Two years later in 1841 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the africans part of the resistance on the Amistad had been illegally transported and held as slaves, and had rebelled in self-defense. Throughout the time of slavery there was plenty of conflict, but finally in 1865 slavery was abolished by the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution outlaws slavery. Today in the world majority of country do not have slavery, but sadly there is still in certain places.
