Procrastination is a trait I have wanted to change about myself for a very long time. I always put things off telling myself I will get to it, which leads to years of stalling. My issue with procrastination has hindered me in many ways, one being, applying for college. I believe a fixed mindset has prevented me from changing this trait because I sometimes shy away from change, therefore leading me to feel as though I have time, which prevents me from achieving those things I dream of. From a growth mindset point of view, I would change this by embracing challenges and believing that my life can be continuously…
Although I enjoy every aspect of psychology, my interest in psychology first ignited through reading and learning more about brain disorders, deviancies in the brain structure, and how these different conditions can impact human behaviors. Therefore, my long-term research interests revolve around these subjects. However, I understand that studying brain disorders on an undergraduate level is a realistic scenario. Thence, my possible research interests for the Psychology Honors Program are studying the role of impulsivity in psychological disorders and/or addictive behaviors.…
This article Locus of control, test anxiety, academic procrastination and achievement among college students was very interesting. It talks about the internal vesus the external. Students were divided into two groups by a median split of 10.5, making that group have a internally oriented group of 57 concluded in this article and the second group being the externally with a 57. The former students showed significantly lower academic procrastination, test anxiety, and reported higher academic achievement than the later group.…
Procrastinators are afraid of making decisions because they may be wrong. Fear of failure causes a person to be stuck unless someone intervenes. They will put off making decisions until either the last minute or the deadline is due. This causes poor management skills. It may have something to do with the persons past or they may just want attention. Procrastinators need help with better work habits. Some need help overcoming their fear of failure. Working on a team with someone like this is frustrating because you must be sure to give them a false deadline in order to get them to be on time with their part of the work.…

Procrastination is one of the biggest reasons that a student does not have good academic success. Procrastination is defined as putting a certain task off until a certain deadline arrives. Such as, if a student has to have a report or speech done by a certain date and has known for three weeks but delays in getting it done until the day before it is due. Doing this usually results in a bad grade for that paper, which could bring the student’s overall grade down to not passing. In my own experience with this problem, I have found it is easier to just do the work after you find out it is due rather than waiting until the last day. Such as, I had a buddy in high school that would hear about the assignment and would delay in getting it done till the day it was due. Yet, he would complain that he never had enough time to do the work required to complete the assignment.…

Others do it because they just honestly hate doing their work. Im also a victim of that as well. What is the actual definition of procrastination? The answer is, procrastination is the act of postponing or putting off until a later date. Dr. Perry himself was a self hating procrastinator until finally it occurred to Perry that he wasn’t exactly entirely that lazy. When Mr. Perry wasn’t grading his papers, he wasn’t sitting down, sometimes he would sharpen his pencils, or he would play games with the other kids there. So, one time in your life you probably will procrastinate, and you wouldn’t know…

11:20 PM found me in front of a glowing computer screen yet again. The essay was assigned weeks ago, but I was cursed with the bad habit of procrastinating. I had an essay due tonight at 11:59 PM and I had been staring blankly at the empty page, praying for any inspiration to come to me.…

Procrastination is the practice of poor time management paired with lack of willpower. There are two different types of procrastination: behavioral and decisional. Behavioral procrastination is when one uses procrastination as an excuse to do poorly; for example, one may put off studying for an exam until last minute and blame a bad exam score on the procrastination. Another instant where one may have behavior tendencies is when one has low self-esteem or self-worth and believes that if he or she never finishes a task, he or she will not be judged. Those with decisional procrastination problems typically put off making a decision or choice; they typically are afraid of errors and are possibly perfectionists. Decisional procrastinators generally seek out other alternatives until they are made to make a decision, if they make a decision at all. 20% of the population is guilty of procrastination and recent studies show that it is on the rise.…
