William Herschel's Accomplishments
William Herschel grew up in England. He found enjoyment in math and astronomy and went about building telescopes. He spent a lot of his life researching and viewing the skies as he looked for comets and stars. Uranus was discovered because he went looking for double stars. One night, in 1871, Herschel found what he thought to be a comet. As he continued to observe it they discovered that it did not possess the traits of a comet. Eventually, Herschel was credited as the one who discovered Uranus as a planet. His love for space and telescopes motivated himself to be able to discover Uranus.
