Wildlife Management
CHAPTER ONE
1. COMPANY BACKGROUND AND OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
The student acquired work related learning at Wenhau Services on the 1st of August 2012. On the first day at work the student was a bit nervous because she had never experience the working environment before. However after meeting and interacting with some of the staff who were friendly I soon felt welcome and settled in very well.
The student worked for 2 weeks in the Victoria Falls office and then an opportunity arose at the Headquarters of Wenhau Services in Harare.
A meeting was conducted to introduce the student to the staff members. My duties and responsibilities were outlined in this meeting. The Managing Director Mr. Wengayi Nhau who is the head of the Touring Department assigned Miss Faith Maponga as my supervisor to whom I would report all my daily activities. This report will serve to outline my activities and encounters at the Travel Company.
1.2COMPANY HISTORY
Wenhau Services Private Limited was established in November 2001 as a Tour and Safari Operator as well as a travel agency in Victoria Falls. It started off with one vehicle a Nissan Sunny that it used for transfers to and from the airport and with a staff compliment of two (2) a driver and a consultant with the two directors spearheading the operation. With a lot of hard work from the team`s vast marketing, the company grew and bought a Toyota Estima 7 seater in 2003. The hard work paid back immensely and the office got busy calling for an increase in the staff compliment which then went up to four (4) with two drivers and two consultants with the directors still spearheading the operation. In 2005 a branch was opened in Livingstone Zambia with the offices situated at No.10 Mosi Oa Tunya Building. Before then all Zambia operations were done by Safari Par Excellence a company that Wenhau services had developed a relationship with. With the companies growing capacity there came a time when it was able to start their own operation

The Australian Wildlife Conservancy manages approximately 3-4 million hectares of land and was established more than 10 years ago. This land is leased from the government, meaning that the government guides their use of the land for a usual length of 50 years. They strive to reach their ultimate goals of restoring fire adapted ecosystems which are much more species-rich, control feral animals and eradicate weeds. Currently, over 1,700 species are categorized as threatened to becoming extinct. However, Ranger Tim White stated that 80% of his work is managing fire. Excluding fire has led to poor quality rainforests with low diversity and uniform structure. For example, the cockatoo grass is a key species the conservancy is attempting to restore.…

As a kid and an adult, I have encountered numerous occasions in which I’ve stumbled upon a neglected baby bird. Instinctually, I would think picking up the baby bird, bringing it into my home, and consoling it would be the most beneficial to the animal. After reading an article on South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers (SPWRC) website, I was surprised to learn doing the exact opposite would be better for the birds’ ultimate well-being. There are many issues that can be easily over looked because they do not necessarily affect one’s life directly. The both educational and environmentally beneficial programs at the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center can be a useful tool, to not only open one’s eyes…

The career I have chosen to research is the wildlife biologist. The wildlife biologist works with all kinds of animals. The two types of animals wildlife biologists work with are vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are animals with a spine, Invertebrates, however, do not have a spine. Part of a wildlife biologist’s job is to tag and record several species of vertebrates and invertebrates, another part of a wildlife biologist career is to learn about, help, and maintain the various environments that different plants and animals need to survive. The wildlife biologist’s salary averages around $51,000 a year. The wildlife biologist has a lot of work required for this job.…

This paper is for people who just got started deer hunting. If you have deer hunted before and know how to gut a deer then good for you, this paper isn't for you, goodbye. But anyways this process is a little gross so if you don't have a strong stomach I don't suggest gutting a deer. Hunting and Gathering VS Agriculture From the early prehistoric society until now, we often heard the word "adaptation", which means the process of changing something or changing our behavior to deal with new situations. The ways people adjust their natural environment varies according to time, place, and tribe. Foraging is common way of adaptation that people uses for most of human history; however because of the population pressure, some people adopt agriculture to fulfill their need. This essay, will discuss the positive and negative aspects of life in hunting and gathering societies compared to the agricultural societies based on Martin Harris' article "Murders in Eden" and Jared Diamond's article "The Worst Mistake in the History of Human Race." Hunting and gathering is the longest-lasting lifestyle for most of human history. In addition to their way of life, hunter-gatherers are often regarded as "nasty, brutish, and short" (Diamond 114). Progressivists also suggested our hunter-gatherer ancestors adopt agriculture because of "its efficient way to get more food for less work"(Diamond 114). However, as archaeologists observe in some aspects of their lives, hunter-gatherers societies are not necessarily "nasty, brutish, and short." Some issues that we need to compare between hunting and gathering and agricultural societies include workloads, nutrition, production, starvation, infanticide, health and disease, and differences in wealth. From the work loads, it shows that in the barren environment of the Kalahari dessert, the present day Bushmen need only 12 to 19 hours per week to obtaining a diet rich in protein and a high nutritional standard, while their farmer neighbors, the Hadza nomads of Tanzania, need 14 hours per week and get less protein. It also takes more additional hours…

Do animals have feelings? We may never know for sure, but for those of us who think they do, there are animal rights groups. For those of us who don't think so, or just don't care, there's indifference and there's hunting. The morality of sport and commercial hunting has been in question for centuries. I could open a economy size can of worms about fox hunting in England, whale hunting in Japan, and tiger hunting in Africa. I think it's safe to say that most of us are supportive of protecting endangered species, but what about the plentiful fauna of Missouri? Chock full of birds, fish, deer, and rodents, should they be protected as well?…
