why i want to become an xray tech
First off let me tell you writing is not my strong suit! I'm applying for a Kaiser Permanente Scholarship for my Radiologic Technology Program. I was not given anything as far as specifications and my prompt is "a written essay describing personal goals, achievements and accomplishments". Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. Here is what I've come up with:

Vince Lombardi once said, "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." I admire the words written here and try to apply them in my everyday life. Now that I am part of the Pasadena City College Radiology Program I find these words more important than ever. The only thing that is not fitting about this quote is that when I put my mind to something, as though I have for school, and someone else is depending on my actions, I will not lose. Not only will my patients rely on me to provide them with the best care possible but also I will someday have a family that relies on my success in the field. This being said, even though I'm only a handful of months in I've dedicated my self to this program by setting personal goals, some of which I've already achieved and some of which I've yet to achieve but have made a promise to myself to accomplish.
When I was applying to radiology programs across the state my only wish was to be accepted to one in Northern California so as to be close to my friends, family, fiancé and life as I knew it. At the time, I thought it was unfortunate that the only school lottery in which I was lucky enough to "win" a position in was at Pasadena City College, but as it turns out, I don't think I could have found a better fit in schools. Although leaving my comfortable country girl farm life for the city life of LA is the biggest curve ball that has yet been thrown at me I've decided to put all that I can into this program and make my

Choosing the career that I want to spend the rest of my life doing is something that was extremely difficult for me. It is hard to understand the concept of selecting what profession is just right for me, and what I may be interested in and want to pursue every day for the rest of my life, especially at such a young age. I have thought about different schools and jobs, as well as the pros and cons, for what seems like my whole summer and senior year. Questions troubled me, about what I wanted to do, for awhile until it finally hit me. I needed to stop worrying and do something I am passionate about. My love for animals has always been the one constant thing in my life. I have always had pets and could not imagine what life would be like without them. Working with animals is something I know I will always be passionate about. There is a saying that I now go by, "Do something you love and you will never work a day of your life.”…

My dream for the next four years is to achieve a Physician Assistant degree at St. John’s University. As I transition to college from high school, I understand how there is no one in the world besides myself to help me reach my goal and it will require hard work as well as motivation to reach that point. At times, I feel overwhelmed with the struggles that arise in achieving my degree, but that would not stop me from my main point in coming to this school. I am able to connect my experience to the experience the Nolan’s and my dad went through when it was their time to achieve their dreams. I interviewed Dr. Janet Geyer and received some great information from her. Geyer sand the hardest part of becoming a doctor was “The lack of personal time, everything became about school.” I knew that going into the medical field would be hard and the majority of my time would be spent studying, but hearing it from a doctor makes it real to me. I asked Geyer what makes her happy to be a doctor and why, she said “I like the intimate part of being a nurse, people tell me more than what they would normally tell others and sometimes I am really able to make a difference.” I thought about what she said and I would love to make a difference in someone’s life, but I also need to remember that I cannot get too attached to my patients. Geyer said that if she could go back and give herself advice from when she was in college she would tell…

For my research paper and my interest in my future job will be Health Technicians. What Health Informatics do is manage health-related industries with information and facilities. They can manage hospitals, nursing homes, health center, and any other health-related workplace. They do a lot around the building, from checking on patients and taking reports of them to working at the front desk with the computers and phones. Working with the patients would deal with taking reports, they do not do much cleaning, but they do have to make people feel comfortable in there own room. When working behind the desk you would need to know how to manage a computer and the phones there. They could need to know how to file paperwork, how to check people in the hospital, or helping people find the room they need. The paperwork will be a big part of working over at the main desk in the hospital because you have to make…

Ambitions and goals are pathways to accomplishing the standards of humanity. Who we are and what we do matter only when we identify as a “somebody”. I have always aimed to be in the healthcare field however, never understood exactly what it was I saw myself step into. Graduating high school was easy it was like daycare before preschool, easy and simple. The real life had begun and I did not know what I was doing, I started off with attending the nearest community college for two years. There I changed my major eight times only to find myself back to biology. Stressed and high off of the rush of my own adrenaline I sat down one day and began my research. Eventually I discovered this unique new name, never had I heard of before called Physician’s Assistant.…

“To go forward you have to come back to where you began.” So much has changed since that warm summer night when I read the last pieces of advice Cal had to offer. Often my personal self feels like a collection of different pieces – the me from the border, the me as next of kin, the me rediscovering hope, perhaps even the me of the future. Being a doctor encompasses much more than just technical skill and amassing information. It is an outlook, a passion, a question and state of mind. My experiences have taught me that without a genuine drive to change people’s lives and the courage to stand tall in the face of uncertainty, even the best academic is just a mediocre physician. A social worker once told me, “A career in medicine is what you make…

Not only with hopes of succeeding for myself but for the two tiny humans that ran around all day calling me “mommy.”…
