Why I want to be a nurse

The medical field has always been a childhood dream of mine. I find the human body fascinating. When I was young child I wanted to be a doctor. Then nursing became an alternative as I got older. Becoming a nurse will help me achieve my professional goal. I have always felt a deep desire to help people whenever they needed it, and would stop at no end to help them. I want to help people achieve and maintain good health, to make someone feel special, let them know that someone cares about them and getting well, whatever the situation, and comfort them when they are in pain or even dying. I also want a career where I can earn a respectable living but still feel fulfilled and interested in what I’m doing. The possibilities are endless, I know that my day to day duties will never be the same. I know that being a nurse is very stressful but rewarding too, plus the salary and benefits are tremendous. Many of the jobs I have actually wanted to do and tried have never really worked out. I’ve tried waitressing, working in restaurants and even managed a small convenience store. Office work never quite caught my attention. Answering phones, sorting files, and sitting behind a computer were not interesting to me. I loved the human interaction of the restaurant, however the work itself was not challenging. I have no doubt that I want to pursue a career in nursing. Health care is exactly the type of professional challenge I have been seeking all my life. When I worked at Teays Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, I realized that it’s truly the personal impact of a health giver that is satisfying and rewarding.
