“Why I Want to Be a Teacher”
First of all, I love kids and it has always been my dream and passion to become an educator. For most people, the word teacher is defined as someone who is responsible for informing or teaching someone something. But not everyone would have the same meaning or image for a teacher. Teachers have a very important role of shaping the lives of young children and preparing them to become productive citizens in our community and with these types of responsibilities teachers can attain great pride and joy. Therefore, I believe that all teachers should strive for what can be considered to be a “good teacher.” A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative.
A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child. Teachers, especially at the elementary level, must be very creative with their teaching styles. Not every child learns the same way, nor are they interested in the same things. I believe that every person is important with an emphasis to each individual’s uniqueness. I believe that the purpose of education is to reproduce society by providing apprenticeship for children to fit into the world. I also believe that student learn when beginning with concrete examples, to illustrations, and then abstract representations. Active and cooperative learning will take place in order to emphasize problem solving, critical thinking, and social skills.
Teachers must also be open to the many different types of people, ideas and cultures. They also must always try to respect the views of everyone. Let’s face it; children from different backgrounds are going to be together in one classroom. The teacher must learn to incorporate everyone’s beliefs into their daily curriculum.
