Why I should go to the promotion board
Why I Should Go To The Promotion Board

SGT Phillips, Antwine J.
06 August 2014

Here are a couple of reasons why I believe I should be go to the promotion board. First, I’m ready to further my career as a Non Commissioned Officer. Being the best I can be is all I’ve ever wanted and I’m ready to take the next step in the Army with being promoted to Staff Sergeant. Secondly, I’m ready to take on more responsibility as that shows that I’m becoming a better leader because with more rank comes more responsibility.

I feel that I am more than qualified to attend the promotion board. I have more than enough experience as an NCO that this would be a prominent move in the right direction. In these current times I feel that by going to the promotion board upon passing it I will be able to impose my will as a Staff Sergeant and lead more soldiers to becoming great leaders themselves. I am deserving of this opportunity and have been waiting my chance for a great while now. This is the time and this is the season for a break through.

In closing, I’m not asking for too much but to be afforded the opportunity to at least have a chance to attend the promotion board. I will be well prepared and motivated to do my best at the board. This will be a great step towards my career progression. My family would be proud of me, and this would be one of my most recent accomplishments, among many. I want to do so much more for the Army, but I feel limited at the level I am at this moment. I would greatly appreciate this opportunity and once I’ve gone to the board, you will understand why I feel the way I feel about why I should go to the board.
Thank you.

Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

As Battalion Commander I would be able to move the Jaguar Battalion to become a more productive and motivated set of cadets that we have seen since my freshman year in JROTC. I have numerous plans to achieve these goals and will more likely be able to acomplish them by doing the following; having company set goals, a fundraising chart to have an interactive view on which company is raising more money, fitness charts set around each JROTC room to show cadets proper movements on excercises, stretches, fitness goals and proper diets to help maintain and have a healthy body. I will also have Cadet Challenge requirement guidelines in each room to help cadets know what they need to achieve in order for them to recieve special awards or high scores on the Cadet Challenge when the date comes. These are just few of many ideas that I have to help and improve our Jaguar Battalion to become the best battalion we have ever seen in ELCHS.…

My mom currently works as a pharmacist for the Public Health Service, a branch of the military. Her job is difficult, but allows for rewarding promotions to outstanding members each year. She has described the promotion process to me as a grueling event that is worsened by anticipation from the long wait for a response. Unfortunately, this previous year she did not receive the promotion that she had awaited and became quite emotional over the situation. The frustration she had was palpable over the phone and in that instant I knew that I had to try something to alleviate her pain. Due to our separation by many states, I offered to video chat with her in order to have an in-person conversation. I focused our discussion on what she can improve…
