Why I Choose to Return. Why I made the choice to return to college and complete my degree in Business System Administration is unique. I have thought about this for years and it’s a personal goal I want to accomplish. I have a great job in the military teaching new soldiers which is something I love and enjoy. I am ten years away from retiring and looking forward to life after the military. Why would a person that is in the middle of their career want to return to school? The answer to this question is that it’s a personal goal I’ve had for years to obtain a college degree. I have started and stopped several times due to my deployments and family commitments. I have tried on different occasions to start back but the military makes it almost impossible to plan ahead and commit to anything long term. I decided to go ahead with making changes to my routine in just the few weeks since I have decided to return to college. I have taken a look at my work schedule and found time where I can squeeze in class work. Previously I would go out to eat for lunch with the people I work with but now I bring my lunch and eat at my desk. The upside is I get to do class work and save money at the same time. I’ve also found about an hour of free time in the morning before soldiers show up for class. This time is great for taking my quiz because it is very quiet and I can concentrate. Making these few small changes has helped me still get to spend some time in the afternoon with my wife and kids. My family is very important to me and I am trying to set a good example for my two daughters to follow. I want my girls to go to college and get a degree in something they love. How can I expect them to do something I have not accomplished? To me it’s like telling your kids not to smoke while you have a cigarette in your mouth. My wife and I are both in college at Ashford University and showing

I think returning back to school to complete my degree was a very rational decision for me to make. We are sometimes told that experience is the key to getting the perfect job, but in my years in the work force I have learned that it is not always the case. Employers will sometimes use the fact that you do not have a degree against you and I refuse to let that happen.…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…

Every person who begins a college career has a multitude of reasons for doing so. Some people do it because they are expected to get a college degree. Others do it for a better life than they could have without a college degree. For me it is neither of these reasons. I am a former college drop-out who believes I can do better than I did. Therefore, my reasons for going back to college are somewhat different than the average person starting college for the first time. I have something to prove to myself. I want to prove that I can stay commited to college this time and get a degree.…

Starting at eight years old, I always envisioned attending college and obtaining a degree that would allow me to accomplish what I want in life. Over time, I have faced many obstacles such as dyslexia, emotional trauma, and family challenges. All through these challenges, I never let anything deter me from my course of attending college. Despite being able to overcome obstacles, I have come to realize there are things in life that I have little to no control over. Now that I have had time to experience the joys, hard work, and endless opportunities that come with being a college student, I have come too far to let anything stop me from finishing this chapter of my life. In combination with my scholarships and work-study, as a college student with little money I rely partly on my parents to finance my education. Although my parents will continue to do all they can to help finance my education, their income stability is not guaranteed, my family…

I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. Adults return to college primarily because they desire a higher paying career or a professional job. This could be a registered nurse, an elementary school teacher, a policeman or an attorney. It could also be an accountant, a journalist, a librarian, an interior decorator or a beautician (Smith, 2001).…

After careful thought and consideration, I made the desire to return to school into a realistic goal. I had finally come to the conclusion, that it was time to take control of my circumstances, rather than continue to let my circumstances control me. For the first time in twenty years, I have a window of opportunity to fit a degree program into my daily schedule. Returning to school had always been a desire of mine, but in the past, I did not think I had the time or the money to pursue a degree. I was a single mother, I was working all of the time, my children were very young, and half of my wages went to daycare expenses.…

Most people go back to school because they need a degree to obtain a higher paying job or for the thrill of lifelong learning. It's hard to gain proper employment without it these days. Employers prefer someone with a Liberal Arts degree lacking experience over someone with years of experience and no degree. My neices' struggles and constant encouragement from my supervisor were some factors that lead to my decison to return to school.
