What one post online shouldn’t affect their work ethic. Employers shouldn’t stalk current or future employee’s social accounts because it is an invasion of privacy and possibly illegal. This type of screening can lead to discrimination based upon sex, age, sexual orientation, religion or any other factors. Having firsthand experiences with my very own social account being watched by a manager, I know how frustrating and awkward that experience can be. Also, having a head person to question me about an opinion was intense and set an awkward tone in our relationship.

Those who go against company cellphone policy by having their phones out while at work should be handled accordingly. But, those who post outside of work and are victimized by their problem-seeking manager shouldn’t be penalized for expressing themselves. For those who are victimized during the hiring process, I believe that screening potential candidates accounts is a form for deliberate sabotage.

As we all know the hiring process is very tedious. Just imagine, filling out an application and waiting for countless days to receive a phone call for an interview. The interview was very successful, now a background check needs to be conducted. During this eight day wait companies consider previous employment history, financial and social account. you are very anxious because you know you have all the qualification for the position but on social networks you are very controversial.
