The battle of Fort Sumter is a very vital battle to the Civil War. It took place at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. It took place on April 12, 1861. The day after it started, Major Robert Anderson surrendered. The confederates won this battle.

There were no soldiers killed or wounded throughout the entire battle. There was a huge bombardment of cannons by the Confederates. No one got hit by them and the union surrendered before they could get hit. The reason they surrendered is because they only had 80 soldiers and the confederates had 500. The two major generals in the civil war at battle of Fort Sumter were Major Robert Anderson and Major P.G.T. Beauregard.

The battle at Fort Sumter was a significant one. This is because the battle started the whole war. Also, since the union lost, it made many states secede from the union to the confederate.
