Why We Should Not Be Required To Wear School Uniforms
“At best, school uniforms are an ineffective solution to a complex set of problems. At worst, they are a violation of students’ right to free expression” (Forster 1). School uniforms should not be required in schools. School uniforms violate students rights, challenge the education of students, and they are also ineffective.
One reason why school uniforms should not be required in schools is because they violate students’ rights. The basis of this comes from the first amendment “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances” (Forster 2). “Many educators feel that imposing a school uniform policy is an attempt to control students and prevent them from expressing themselves in a normal manner” (Caruso 2).
