Ever wondered the philosophy behind wearing school uniforms? Do you think all schools in the United States should have school uniforms, why or why not? In schools where students are obligated to wear school uniforms everyone generally looks the same every day, there is a slightly different style between boys and girls, but both are wearing the same colors. There is a belief that there should be no school uniforms; people don’t benefit from looking like everyone else every day. Most people are expressing themselves by what they enjoy wearing. America is still a free country, and people can and should be able to wear what they want where they want.

Do we want everyone looking the same and not showing any originality? Procon.org states, “At a time when schools are encouraging an appreciation of diversity, enforcing standardized dress sends a contradictory message.” All students would be

A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that "When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork." School uniforms would not work out as well as not having them, people would all look the same, and no one would be happy except for the few who enjoy not having creativity. Whereas, the people who don’t like school uniforms, which would probably be more people than those who like school uniforms, will be happier and more content without them. It is true that if you have school uniforms then no one can bully you about the articles of clothing you wear and so people will not feel devastated inside. If you are forced to wear uniforms then you will probably not have a very happy life in school, and if people aren’t happy in school then they probably will not do as well in their studies. It is easier to excel at school when you are

None of the schools I have attended had a uniform requirement and many students dressed in ways I found inappropriate. The private school I attended had a strict dress code but public school teachers often overlook the violation of dress code. School uniforms bring a more formal look; giving the school a better reputation and creating a sense of belonging among the students. My style is very diverse and reveals my general interests, whether it be nerdy shirts, girly clothing or vintage outfits from the 40's. Personally, I have always been comfortable in my clothing whether I fit in with others or not. In fact, I always prefer to look different and I have more than enough clothing to express my unique style. I do, however, have friends that always feel under pressure to wear the right clothing and often borrow clothes from me. It is reasons such as these why all schools should require uniforms. School uniforms may be the prominent aspect of our society’s road to success in educating its…

When was the last time you saw a child in their school uniform? Probably quite recently. But have you ever thought how these children feel ? their entire school is wearing the same thing they are wearing? These children wear the same thing every single day they go to school. The only time they get to wear their own style of clothes is on the weekend. Making children wear the same thing everyday, thinking it's a good idea that helps them in school, probably only makes them hate school more. There are many reasons why school uniforms are a bad idea and should not be enforced on children. To start with, to buy them costs a lot of money. Secondly, school uniforms stop the child’s individuality from being expressed, keeping the entire school as…

Throughout the years, there has been much debate with schools across the country on whether or not students should be allowed to wear uniforms. Through past experience with this argument, it’s safe to say that wearing a uniform is not a bad thing at all. Why? For one, uniforms stop other students from being judged on how they look, two, they save families money and students will not pressure their parents into buying clothes some families can’t afford, and lastly uniforms increase safety and security. So I do strongly agree that students should be able to wear uniforms.…

According to the article “The Variable Dresscode: Pros and Cons of School Uniforms” they state that “students are not exposed to diversity and often times experience culture shock when facing individuality in the real world”. We already have school security systems, locks on doors, school police that are there constantly. If we had to wear uniforms then it would feel like more of a jail. Uniforms make everyone the same and then it makes it look like there is no diversity in the school. If uniforms were required no one would be happy because no one wants to be the same as everyone else leading some students to not do good in school. The school wants us to do good in our classes but if everyone is dressed the same and have to follow all the same rules then kids will try more to be different or rebel in other ways. Kids are taught to be individuals and to express themselves freely but when they are told to dress the same and act the same way as everyone else is it takes away their rights express…

One side, Pro Dress Codes, believes dress codes should be used in public schools. In america schools encourage students to dress in a manner that is considered to be conducive to learning, which means that the clothes should not cause a distraction for other students. This promotes a uniformity of dress and discipline that lessens the likelihood that students may commit a dress-code violation, since their clothing choice has been determined by the school and not the student or parents.…

"Just slapping clothes on kids won't improve a school, but uniforms accompanied by other reforms can make a difference. Uniforms send a message and remind students that they are in school. One element of the message is that when you are going to school, that is your place of work. That is the place where you are working at getting smart." ~Joe Palumbo. Uniforms cause children to be more civilized and mature in what they are doing. It could lead the kids to a greater future and teach them to be more proper. Uniforms could stop students from expressing themselves. Having a boring everyday style, students might drift off into another mind and think differently and do different things. They might start acting all mad, get into gangs, or it might even lead up to drinking, smoking and even drug use. An article found on the internet supports this statement, (http://aclunv.org/category/issue/education/uniforms). At (¶ 7, line # 9-12) it clearly states, “...the researchers found that student uniforms had no positive statistical correlation with absenteeism, drug use, attitudes toward school, or student achievement. Strikingly, the authors found only one statistically significant correlation – a negative effect on student achievement by tenth graders forced to wear uniforms.” Having a unique style being taken away could affect the minds of students. Students shouldn’t be denied the right to expressing themselves because it’s their unique way to show others who they are.…

Even though the argument on whether or not school uniforms takes away the student's right to self-expression will never end. Having school uniforms for the students to wear will eliminate bullies who pick on other students based on their clothing. Uniforms will eliminate the separation of social classes when that is mainly determined by what clothing a person wears. Last but not least, schools that require the students to wear school uniforms makes a formal look on the school. Uniforms may seem boring, but if they are able to help improve learning for students, they are a very reasonable…
