Her Majesty the Queen
Queen of England
Buckingham Palace, London SW1A 1AA

Dear you’re Royal Majesty,

The role of the queen has been around for around 400 years; currently the Queen is Queen Elizabeth the second. The queen currently rules England, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and a few others. The Queen is the head of state for Canada, yet she is more of a symbol than an active participant in the government. The Queen has been around for many years, she has been a high moral character, and she leads a key role in Canada. Even though she is on our coins, dollar bills, even new Canadians pledge loyalty to her and her successors, but this is outdated and unnecessary. As in my previous paragraph I stated that this Monarchial system is no longer needed, for we do not pledge loyalty to the queen every day, we barely notice the Queens presents in Canada, other than hearing her in the news or on the internet. She has been to Canada only 24 times over the entire span of her rule, and we pay more for the Queen than the British do currently. We pay $1.53 per capita while the Brits pay only $1.32, over the last 10 years our payment to the Queen has doubled! In Canada there are two heads of state, the Queen, and her representative the Governor General; with cutting out the Queen we could keep the role of the Governor General and which in fact would mean we wouldn’t be paying the Queen $1.53 per capita, which is relatively around 40- 50 million dollars Canadian. The Queen is suggested to be a part of our colonial roots which no longer serves a purpose in present day Canada.

The British Monarchy is a show piece that stands to represent the old ways of the world. They have been losing power gradually but steadily over the last two hundred years. In Australia their presence serves as merely ceremonial with a little political power that is seldom used. However removing the monarchy from the structure of our country would mean losing sporting opportunities, relations with UK and an affinity with our culture as an English colony which steadily grew from rags to riches under hard circumstances.…

Canadian law has inherited a lot of different principles from Great Britain. One of the things that the law has taken is the common law is common law which relies on case law and is common to all people. It does not matter who is breaking the law, whether it be the queen herself, everyone has to abide by the rules. The rule of Precedent has also been influenced by the British case law which is a method of deciding cases based on recorded decisions of similar cases. The jury system of Great Britain has influenced our jury in Canada. In olden times (In England), they consisted of 12 members. Now the jury consists of 6 people. The Canadian Prime Minister is the head of the Government and has significant powers in deciding how the nation is supposed to work in their stipulated time frame. While he/she is not the head of the state, he/she leads the Canadian Armed Forces and appoints the cabinet ministers, Supreme Court judges, senators, ambassadors, and heads of crown corporations. However, the Canadian constitution does not explicitly state most of the powers currently exercised by the Prime Minister because it does not establish the post of Prime Minister. These powers arise from unwritten Constitutional…

Canada is a constitutional monarchy; this means that the powers of the monarchy in Canada are limited by the Constitution. Our monarch is now Elizabeth II, who is also the Queen of the United Kingdom. As our Queen does not live in Canada, she appoints, under the advice of our Prime Minister, a Governor General to represent her authority in Canada. There is a great debate among Canadians, on if they really need a constitutional monarchy. The fact is Canada does need a monarch.…

Keeping the monarchy in a democratic society, is the same as using a quill in a school filled with pencils. Despite an immense amount of progress involving the Canadian government, there is an extensive problem disturbing the system. The constitutional monarchy puts a figurehead as the highest position and representative of our Country. As stated in the constitution, our Queen’s power is entrusted to the Prime Minister and other elected figures, which makes the democracy overpower the monarchy (“The Monarchy of Canada 4). Along with going against the regulations that are placed over the other members of the government, royalty prevents growth, new ideas and denies the citizen’s power to choice their own leader.…

The Crown “serves as the concept of the state in Canada and the Canadian state is the legal person called Her Majesty in Right of Canada (Lagassé, 2013)”, which is why everyone working within the parliament have to swear allegiance to the Queen. Canada’s head of state the sovereign, has executive power which means the authority to implement the laws, as well as legislative power. The difference between the Crown and the Monarch according to Mintz, et al. (2015), is the Crown is just a symbol of what belongs to the Canadian public, the body that prosecutes cases, and as government acting as a trustee. The Monarch refers to the actual person, who at this point is Queen Elizabeth. The Crown holds importance because “it was under the umbrella of the crown- it was thanks to the flexible, adaptable, evolving system of constitutional monarchy- that democratic government eventually prevailed in nineteenth-century ( Michael Jackson,…

Canada is a fusion of the British parliamentary system with the American federalism. The Prime Minister is the highest role in the government. He can appoint or remove individual from the cabinet and patriotic appointments. Lloyd Axworthy was hired as a cabinet minister by both Trudeau and Chrétien (Cook & Belanger, 2007: p. 401). The PM controls all justices of the Supreme Court of Justice, vacant seats in the senate, all heads of Canadian Crown Corporations and many more.…
