Why We Should Be Tanning Be Banned Essay

Iowa law makers are considering a bill that bans teens, ages Seventeen and younger from tanning indoors. There is a lot that can be said about what tanning can do for you personally. About once or twice a week someone will go in for a tan. Tanning boost your confidence, gives your skin vitamin D, and over all helps you look good. But something has to be said about the harmful effects of tanning. It has been know for years that UVA rays can lead to skin cancer, wrinkles,and sun spots. Those won't boost your confidence later on will it? The American Academy of Dermatology states "The number of skin cancers have been rising over the years due to increasing UV radiation exposure. More than 1.3 million new skin cancer cases are to be diagnosed
Right now Iowa has already placed a 10% tax increase on tanning. So banning the teens from tanning will hurt their business because they will lose their main customers.This may not be right for business, but it may be saving your skin. According to the skin Cancer Foundation "In 1994, a Swedish study found that women 18-30 years old who visited tanning parlors ten times or more a year had seven times greater incidence of melanoma than women who did not use tanning salons." Tanning is harmful to your skin and anybody who tans will tell you they know that. Just like cigarettes, tanning is addicting and can cause cancer. Teens ages fourteen to seventeen are tanning frequently. Law makers should ban young teens from tanning until their 18, Just like the law of cigarettes.That way the risk of getting skin cancer would go down by a few years. At least from indoor tanning. Outdoor tanning still poses a threat. We can't control the teens in Iowa from tanning outside in the summer for three to four months.
